This is probably one of Keb's best albums. It has his usual Robert Johnson influenced playing and great vocals. This album has some great blues and is very laid back. The title track is especially good and this album rates as one of my favourites of Kebs. A great place to start if your new to Keb Mo, or even if you're new to blues.

I am a great admirer of this under-rated bluesman. When I first listened to the cd it did nothing at all, then after a couple of plays...it is exquisite ,superb songs, what a voice, guitar phrasing and overall production. This is superb musicianship from a man who's paid his dues! Go buy !

Gary Moore on the back of the shapes of things 12" said during his interview with Alan Freeman (Yes sad arent I) back in 84 that he was looking for a lead singer and wanted to concentrate on his lead work.
This I vividly remembered when I bought this as the Album is very good and shows a maturity in Moores song writing and playing although it just looses itself with 3 different vocalists - Gary Moore, Glenn Hughes and Phil Lynott.
The Album is worth a spin as it contains some great balls out rockers, ballads, and awesome fretwork work. The Nothing to Lose track - Written by Moore detailing Lynotts lifestyle which is now so apt - as 4 months after this album was released Lynott was gone as the songs graphically warns.

This is a great little album. RL Burnside was one of the more innovative blues artists, certainly in his later days, experimenting with hip hop etc. Out of that period came this album recorded with the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. The Blues Explosion have always frustrated as they don't often create music in line with the connotation of their name. This is probably the closest that band will get to the blues and this album is all the better for it. Burnside staples like Shake em on down are converted into blues punk grooves, JL Hooker's Boogie Chillen is also a highlight as is Snake Drive, which is probably the best song on the album with its raw energy. Don't expect a typical blues album, as those who have heard Burnside and Spencer before will tell ... Read More:

This is superb stuff from start to finish. The review below is very comprehensive and I agree entirely. The highlight for me is I Gotta Try You. At over 12 minutes long its a blues tour de force of rhythmn, lead and vocals. The edit with the fade in at the beginning emphasises the "live one take" feel throughout the album.
The only gripe from my end is the sometimes excessive echo and delay effects put on Buddy's guitar and vocals. This is at odds with the live, stripped down sound of the band. Can't knock a star off for that though and i think the best I can say is that having seen Buddy play most of these songs live, the album is actually better, which isn't normally the case with a blues album.

Labour of Love casts attention on a facet of Nick Lowe's talent that's surprisingly uncelebrated--his songwriting prowess. Having made his mark as a producer, performer, and sideman, Lowe's skills as a singer-songwriter have been taken for granted, but, as this tribute confirms, Nick has long possessed a knack for mating blissful hooks with pithy couplets. Here an assortment of players and singers from a range of genres tackle Lowe gems dating from his new wave heyday up through his brilliant late-'90s comeback. Proving the adaptability of Lowe's material is half the fun here, as Joe Louis Walker turns the '70s anthem ("What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding" into a midtempo soul lament, "Half a Boy and Half a Man" is transformed ... Now, I wouldn't call myself an avid Eric Clapton fan - yes I like some of his early work, but in total I only have four CD's (including Derek & The Dominoes and Blind Faith) and the unplugged & sessions for Robert Johnson DVD's. So, listening and watching (I have the 2 CD + DVD edition) this in a "neutral" capacity I was thoroughly impressed by the contents. The tracks are varied and yes, do include the big hits you would expect (Layla, Tears in Heaven etc.) and, there are great renditions of Badge and Bell Bottom Blues. The playing is tight from a collection of extremely talented and experienced musicians with Billy Preston delivering vocals on one of the end tracks. So it's five stars from me.
