Willie Dixon is the featured performer on only six of these thirty-six songs. But he is there on the rest as well, composing, producing, playing bass, and usually taking a back seat to stars like Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter and Bo Diddley.
All of these songs are written and composed or co-composed by Willie Dixon, including classic blues hits like Little Walter's "My Babe", Bo Diddley's "Pretty Thing", Muddy Waters' "Hoochie Coochie Man", and Howlin' Wolf's magnificent "Hidden Charms" with its fiery guitar solo.
But there are many other superb songs here as well, including lesser-known tracks like the delightful jazzy number "Violent Love", performed by Dixon, guitarist Ollie Crawford, and pianist Leonard ... Read More:

If you are looking for a way into blues music then Robert Cray is certainly a good place to start. This is Cray's second album and worth a place in anyone's collection. Blues songs always tell stories, and this cd is packed with songs of love, hate, despair, hope, relationships, and more. Cray's soulful voice, backed by the band's tight flowing rhythm section and hot saxaphones, is a pleasure to hear. Cray's work has 'class' written all over it, listen to 'Phone Booth', Bad Influence', and 'Where Do I Go From Here' for starters. This album has many strengths, with over half of the material original, and is fresh and relevant on each listening. Nice one, Bob! Go for it - you won't be disappointed. Recommended.

I was going to mention Clapton's christening of the Les Paul, Marshall setup, but others have beaten me to it. I liken it's impact to what happened to harp playing when Little Walter and other's deciding to blow through the PA or an early guitar amp. They REDEFINED the sound of the instrument.
So all I'll add is the rhetorical question...can you imagine being a teenage Brit, having been reared on the sounds of the Beatles, Jerry and the Pacemakers, or even the Dave Clark Five, wandering into a London club because someone had recommended the Bluesbreakers, and hearing THIS STUFF? Probably as epiphanic as being a white guy in mid 50's Chicago and having the nerve to wander into the Dew Drop Inn and hearing Muddy, Wolf, or later, Otis ... Read More:

Read any article or book about blues music, and mention will quickly be made to what's considered the finest live blues album around - namely, BB King's "Live At The Regal". I'd say it's a fair comment, but the impact of that album is that I think it now slightly overshadows this one; and if you've not heard "Live in Cook County Jail" before then I recommend you do - as it's a fine record.
You've only got to look at Johnny Cash to know how live albums recorded in prisons can somehow bring out the best in a musician, and with BB it's no different. Perhaps it's the thought of playing to a group of prisoners, but he pulls out all the stops on this album. The guitar playing is exemplary of course (his licks here have a real sting in the tail) but it's ... Read More:

Van Morrison's first for the prestigious Blue Note label has him on good vocal form and clearly enjoying performing, despite the vitriolic nature of a few of the lyrics, and there is an enjoyable variety of styles throughout, with plenty of room for the excellent team of musicians to breathe and play.
Van himself contributes alto sax on three of the tracks and acoustic guitar on several others. Acker Bilk brings some beautiful clarinet to Somerset, a tune he wrote with David Collett; and Pirates guitarist Mick Green turns up on Lightnin' Hopkins' Stop Drinking (with some additional lyrics from Van) and on the closing track, Get On With The Show.
The only other cover on the album is Saint James Infirmary, a much recorded standard that dates back ... Read More:

I knew "Senza Una Donna" by ZUCHERO AND PAUL YOUNG which is a good song back in 1991 but nothing else until I met my wife to be who was living in Italy. When i first went over there in 1996 she gave me SPIRITO DI VINO which is his best album in my opinion wiht "SHAKE" in the same mould. Zuchero is the italian version of Joe Cocker. The first three tracks will get you rocking then a ballad then comes "X COLPA DI CHI" which is another up tempo blues track and is my favorite. Then the album slows down with a few ballads "COSI CELESTE" which is the best ballad on here.

I wondered to myself "How can Sonny Landreth possibly equal the resounding success of South of I-10?" but I needn't have worried. Levee Town consolidates his status as the supreme slide guitarist working today but also builds on and develops his quite considerable songwriting abilities. Many have spoken of the weakness of his vocals but his voice perfectly compliments the instrumental prowess and indeed, sets it off nicely.
The tracks are beautifully worked and none more so than album highlights such as Deep South, Love and Glory, The USS Zydecoldsmobile and Broken Hearted Road though there is not a weak track among them. The guitar break in Broken Hearted Road must be heard to be believed, it comes seemingly out of nowehere and threatens to envelop the proceedings ... Read More:

One of the most influential albums of all time and hugely listenable. Purely instrumental but the tunes are all melodic and entertaining. Guitarists will get a lot out of listening to the originals of tunes such as Hideaway and everyone will enjoy the upbeat and timeless music.
Eric Clapton and Peter Green cut their teeth on this album but the music stands well the test of time and still sounds good today.
