This is certainly a power blues and is what Gary Moore does best. Whilst he can be superbly melodic blues he can also rock out as he does during his live performance where his true energy gets released. Standout tracks Memory Pain and Theres a hole are superb with the others well nested around them.

When it comes to 'feel' as a singer or a guitarist, Lonnie Mack is out on his own. His version of Chuck Berry's "Memphis" blew me away when I was an aspiring guitarist in the early '60s and it still does. Like the other reviewers say, he ain't the best, but the best are often uninteresting. Lonnie is never that.

North Mississippi All Stars' debut is collection of classic country-blues covers. coming from various musical backgrounds (one member was part of a hardcore punk band whilst another was part of a gospel band) they have an exceptionally diverse sound without sounding like a complete mess. their blues influences are clear, and their style is definately that of the Deep South. but when you hear them, you really cannot complain. toe-tappingly catchy and a very confident start to what'll no doubt be a successful career. definately worth getting.

What I enjoy about this disk is that Ronnie has taken some tunes that he has recorded elsewhere and completely reworked them to an excellent affect. The playing is very crisp. His guitar seems to jump out at you.

Dr Feelgood, Canvey Island's finest - remember the heady days of British Pub R'n'B, back when R'n'B meant something different? The Feelgoods had burst onto the scene with a blistering live act, that centered around the rasping vocals of the late, and very lamented, Lee Brilleaux, coupled with the guitar playing and face pulling of Wilko Johnson. Backed by John B Sparks and The Big Figure, this was a band that take on all comers, and blow most of them into the weeds with high energy rock. But then, horror of horrors, Wilko left, and fans waited to see who would fill the guitar stool. Enter John Gypie Mayo - recently heard on the Yardbirds comeback - a blistering guitarist with a different style to the Peter Green-inspired Wilko. And back they roared, ... Read More:

Kimbrough was easily the most arresting figure in "Deep Blues," the documentary movie and soundtrack album about the contemporary Delta blues scene. Music critic Robert Palmer, the movie's "guide," produced All Night Long, Kimbrough's first full length album after more than 40 years of music-making. While many of the other modern Delta musicians are mere imitators of their predecessors, Kimbrough is starkly original. He's backed by just a drummer and bassist who have learned, after years of weekend dance parties at Kimbrough's juke joint, how to anticipate his constant, subtle shifts of rhythmic emphasis. The results resemble John Lee Hooker's boogie but sound less fussy, more ancient, more elemental.

Often called the greatest unknown guitarist in the world, certainly in the country blues arena he is the greatest known guitarist as well, SRV is not on the same planet as this guy. Quite simply the most awesome guitar soloing you will ever hear.
Roys problem was he was a genuine tortured soul and as such his albums could be inconsistent, so my advice is stick to the best compilations from his three labels. ( The classic original albums are the 2 on 1 RB 1st & 2nd Album, Live in Japan & When a Guitar Plays the Blues)
This Cd covers his mid 70's Atlantic period, when increasing drug abuse and poor choice of producers hindered his output, but this is the best of the atlantic material. Stanley Clarke pushed him into a more ... Read More:

This CD is the best album Lonnie ever made in my opinion. He gets a hand from the (late) master SRV who gives the album it's accent that reaches the album over others. The Oreo cookie blues is a fine example that Lonnie made this record with a good sense of humor. (I keep them in the glovecomparment of my car).
Just listen to this record and have a nice time with Lonnies nice V and his voice. The intire album is worth listening, although the sound quality isn't perfect.

Over the last ten years this CD has often frequented my CD player, it is without doubt one of my favourite albums. The excellent guitar work blended together with the "Memphis Horns" make for a foot tappin blues/soul sound which is hard to resist. Whilst I would not rate Cray as the best male vocalist I could mention, he excells on this album, it's not how he says it, but what he says that counts. My personal favorite tracks are "These things", "Holdin court" & "Bouncin back". If you like Clapton and BB.King buy this, you won't regret it.

This is simply a great 'up' blues album. Allison plays and sings with passion and fire and the band is simply outrageously good. Possibly one of the best Alligator albums, it is a dammned difficult album to sit still to.
If you like houserockin' blues this really is a must.
