I first heard Face To Face whilst on holiday in Toronto in 1995 when they were in town promoting the release of this record, from the tracks I heard on the radio I had to go to the nearest record store that day and buy this album and I'm eternally glad that I did.
Face To Face were a Californian Punk band but not in the same style of any 100 or so other bands that the label applies to. Their melodies and musicianship stretched beyond the standard three power chords bombast and "whoooah, ooooh" vocals and their lyrics were also deeper than most.
Based on this album I became a fan and continue to be one to this day having recently purchased their superb DVD "Shoot The Moon-The Definitive Collection" which is outstanding. Be well advised ... Read More:

This album is a combination of two 'Get Up Kids' E.Ps namely~ 1997's Woodson and 1999's Red Letter Day, which puzzles me as the tracks to the earlier Woodson are placed after the Red Letter Day tracks. Anyway, the difference between the songs from each EP is rather apparent, the 97 'Woodson' songs (last 4 tracks) are a lot more rough, powerful, energic, but seem unpolished compared to the 'Red Letter Day' tracks (first 5 tracks). However the main reason for this is because the 'Red Letter Day' tracks are the beginnings of the sound the Get Up Kids are most known for today ~ strong meaningful harmonies, coupled with thoughtful, easy to relate to lyrics. Stand out tracks include the poetic catchy piano riff laden "Mass Pike", the yearnful ... Read More:

This is already a classic punk album. Super fast thrash with kicks and decent lyrics. There isn't a single bad track on it and each one will be your favourite song for a few weeks. It ranges from political to comedy but both are good. Not the most intelligent or in depth politics you'll find but they get the point across and most of the time it's to fast to make them out anyway. Get this album now and then go see them live cos thats even better. If you like this you might wanna check out all their other albums, propagandhi, bouncing souls and Justins Solo stuff.
Release Date July 01, 1994
Written at a time when music was looking forward in a big way (Machine Head and Korn were about to release their seminal debuts, Prong were to make one of the best metal albums of all time with "Cleansing"), Downset's self-titled debut charted the path for - dare I say it - numetal, but well before it was contrived to oblivion as it is these days. Bands like Downset, Sick Of It All and Biohazard were still keeping it real in 1994, the white slant on urban decay sounding very original at the time. Often the albums which should get the most praise never do. This album, Downset's 1994 debut, is a gem, remaining loyal to its hardcore roots but sadly the spectre of numetal was rearing its ugly head.
