Like The Dead Kennedys and Big Black, Alice Donut sing about all that is wrong with America with a wicked sense of humour, no more is this illustrated on this album than on "Sleep", the story of a surreal dream that leads to the narrator bedwetting, and "Come up with your hands out", the true tale of a mad woman who goes on a shooting spree. It's Tom Anona's vocal delivery and choice of subject that make Alice Donut rise above most other so-called alternative rock bands. Best songs are "My Best Friend's Wife" and "Dead River" due to their catchy choruses; that's if you like to sing along to "bodies, bodies, crippled bodies, bodies, bodies, butchered bodies". There's even a cover version of Sabbath's ... Read More:

It's true these guys have evolved over their 15 years or something of existance. In fact I think NUFAN somewhat followed the same path that punkrock set out for me to go. In the late 80's they had a few albums that were quite rough and rumbly on New Red Archives (both of them were re-released a short while ago on Fat BTW), then they had their debut on Fat ("The Daily Grind") which was still rough but with more melody slipping in and "Leche Con Carne" was simply the climax in melody of all times. With the latest 2 albums they remained masters of perfectly mixing melodicy and eagerness, but some more emotion was put into it, especially with "More Betterness" which in the opinion of some (other) people was their weakest effort ever.

Compulsion are ridiculously underrated. They don't even have a website (last time I checked), yet as this record shows, they consistently write catchy and rocking punk songs. Clearly slightly influenced by a combination of Nirvana and the Kinks, their tunes are infectious and their lyrics are witty. They incorporate more ideas per song than probably any modern band that is comparable to them - Weezer for example, who's "Blue" album was a classic in it's own right. "Future is Medium" is better.
There are no bad songs on this record, but at least nine songs here are outstanding. It's one of those albums where if there is a bit in a song you don't like, it changes and reveals something you do like. So in effect, you can't actually dislike a ... Read More:

Boxcar racer had the potential to be a great band and they certainly are. With blink 182's drummer Travis Barker and vocalist Tom DeLonge, this new band were bound to be a success. The band's way of playing is much different to Blink 182. The band are much heavier and less punk rocky.
Like Blink 182 all of Box car racer's songs have a catchy tune to keep a beat to. The best song has to be "I feel so" and closely behind it "sorrow". The rest of the songs aren't bad but those 2 tracks really stand out.
The band have quite a big contrast between the types of songs. There are the heavy song's like "all systems go" and there's the mellow rock songs like "letter's to God".
If you are a blink 182 fan or a punk rock fan at that, ... Read More:

I'm a bit biased as a no use lover, but this album is awesome. Life size mirror is probably the best track, a lot of the others are replicated on other albums, but it's worth buying No Betterness just for that.
"too emo bla" whatever
