If the original 2CD `The Only Classical Album You'll Ever Need' was true to its claim, then surely there'd be no need for this volume 2 would there? Never mind, all good things deserve a sequel I guess.
This follow up 2CD release matches the original in that the budget price doesn't reflect the quality, for the soloists, orchestras, conductors and the recordings themselves ensure it is a good quality selection of mostly familiar music from the classical music repertoire.
The choices this time offer a slightly more varied repertoire than the opera-biased original, for example there are film soundtracks such as `The Mission' (Ennio Morricone), `Lord of the Rings (Howard Shore), `The Deerhunter' (Stanley Myers) ... Read More:

This CD was given to me as a christmas present, but have only started listening to it recently. The first disc is the best with the chest burstingly beautiful "O mio babbino caro", but the second disk is heaving with relaxing hits. It really does do what it say's on the tin, the most relaxing CD on the market, the second being "Pure peace". I can only advise you to buy it now, if I am wrong you can resell it on amazon for almost it's purchase price and I am sure there will be many takers.

DeJaVu records released back in 2002 a CD De Luxe set of Ennio Morricone
under the same title and exactly the same cover. The package held 2 CD's
of Ennio's soundtracks. I'm afraid this is exactly the same with more
titles added. I was very disappointed then because I felt I was fooled
again. First I thought this wasn't Ennio at all but his name is all
over (on the cover, on the booklet, on the CD itself). Then I had to
admit it probably is Ennio although up to this day I still doubt it.
If these are re-recordings this must have been a 5 or 6 piece band
with e few back-up vocals. It is so different to the original recordings
that it really hurts when listening to it. I have most of Ennio's music ... Read More:

When i think of classical music it's some big bloke on stage singing in some language that sounds like it's from another planet. After seeing nella fantasia and mal di luna on classicas fm (sky) i was blown away. I could actually understand what she was saying. I went out and bought it. If your not sure about classical music then listen to this. Or try russell watson, bond or wild. Thank you summer for introducing me to classical music. Look forward to the next album.

Despite appearances, this two-disc set lacks the famous, original soundtrack recordings of these three scores. Instead, so far as I can ascertain, many (if not all) instruments are computer synthesized, 'based on the original scores'.
Whilst the finished result sounds slick and fairly convincing (though any brass instruments sound so utterly horrid as to cause one to skip to the following track), it lacks the magic, and individually pleasing sounds for which I sought the CDs out. If you enjoyed the soundtracks to these films, I would beseech you to find the original recordings instead, and give this CD-set a miss.

Ok, in brief Ennio Morricone is possibly the most important soundtrack composer of the 20th Century; he could also be one of the most important composers of the 20th Century. It is true to say that Morricone has not released anything quite as memorable since Once Upon A Time In America but he is now in his 70's and after over 500 scores for movies, TV as well as his classical compositions probably deserves a rest. Morricones work is collected over many labels: Dagored, Saimel, RCA, cinevox, cam and more. His best known work i.e. The Spagetti Trilogy and work in Hollywood is pretty easy to track down in compilation form. However, his 60's & 70's work - considered to be his best are harder to find and that much more expensive. Lucky for you El have ... Read More:

Filippa has the most haunting voice I have heard in a long while. Having listened to the sample tracks on-line I took the chance and ordered her album 'Filippa'. It is fantastic and now I am totally hooked on her awesome voice. Don't take my word for it, listen to the sample tracks yourself.... enjoy!

Emma Johnson is one of the world's best and most popular clarinettists, and since winning the BBC Young Musician of the Year title in 1984 has recorded just about all of the classical repertoire for the instrument. Of course the clarinet has such a range and versatility that it is just as suited to more popular, folk and jazz tunes, and her first album for Universal is designed to show this off to the full.
The first track, one of Leroy Anderson's trademark light orchestral pieces, aptly describes the collection; it is "Clarinet Candy", or a collection of lollipops such as you might hear as encores at concerts. Most of them were not written for clarinet, but they sound quite at home with it.
For variety the first half of the album ... Read More:

This Cd is well worth buying. Firstly it is excellent value for a double disc with over 2 and a half hours of music. The sound is superb and the varition is well mixed and suited. Highlight of this album for me are the haunting and divine Due Tramonti by Ludovico Einaudi (a genius!), a new choir arrangement of Barber's masterpiece Adagio for strings, Chopin's Nocturn Op.72/1 (as featured in 1 of last years best films "The Pianist"). Other highlights come from Arvo Part, Mascagni and Satie. Featured performers include Lesley Garrett, the Philharmonica Orchestra, Trinity College Choir. A fantastic album at a fantastic price, well worth getting, putting your feet up and relaxing and enjoying the beautiful music.
