My eyes lit up in March of this year when I discovered this CD was to be reissued."Tracks from Morricone's late 60's/early 70's psychedelic experimental period" said the review I was perusing."An essential purchase" it continued."Mmm-hmm" thought I.
It has to be said I am rather fond of Morricone.I find much of his music to be absolutely captivating, capable of simultaneously putting a smile on my face then reducing me to tears.I also find the effect of his music does not wear thin after repeated listens. I have been listening to "Once Upon a Time in America" for five years and it still sends shivers down my spine. Even The Beatles are not capable of this.
Goosebumps on the arms;tears in the eyes;alleviation of depression;a sense ... Read More:

There are so many compilations from the Italian maestro available that a great deal of homework is required before you make a purchase. All I can say is if you are looking for a comprehensive overview of Morricones career or a definitive best of there are superior versions around than this one. For a start it neglects to include the truly majestic full suite from “Once Upon a Time in the West”, one of the most glorious pieces of music ever recorded .That’s an oversight of a criminal nature. And the excerpts that are on here are different to the original recordings from the soundtrack, recorded in a lower key for some reason. Still there’s much of the material you would expect from any credible Morricone compilation though. ... Read More:

A fantastic collection of relaxing classics that leaves you refreshed and ready to take on any challenge. A very peaceful and relaxing selection that will be a delight to any classical music lovers taste.I don't think you will be disappointed.

OK. Let's suppose you like Myleene Klass. Great, you'll probably think - a whole 2 CDs of music performed by Myleene. Wrong! There are only two tracks on which she performs. The love theme from Cinema Paradiso that opens the first CD, and the Satie that opens the second CD. Yes, she is a competent pianist. No, she does not demonstrate real flair on those two recordings.
The rest of the CDs are generally fairly indifferent recordings of popular classical pieces that appear to have been chosen for one of two reasons: either to promote another of EMI's "name" artists or to get some use out of a fairly moribund recording with one or two exceptions - the Prévin conducted tracks for example.
There's nothing bad about "name" artists ... Read More:

Almost any (but not quite all) CD by Ennio Morricone deserves 5 stars but what makes this one great is that it includes Per Amore, a wonderful melody, which is rarely to be found.
Release Date January 29, 2007
Yo-Yo Ma performs Appassionato with superb technique, and the music on this album is sublime, mystical, sensual, optimistic, gentle and powerful at the same time. A real treat for those who seek an emotional challenge and a profound artistic experience. The more I listen to this CD the more I am astonished by the great selection of the music. It's always such a strong moment when the Cello meets the Oboe in "Gabriel's Oboe" (The Mission) and how they reach for each other and rise together into the most mesmerizing interaction - one is transported to a world of beautiful feelings by this music and how it is played here.
Release Date August 21, 2000
Ennio Morricone pioneered a type of soundtrack composition in which diegetic noises (such as the harmonica in "Once Upon A Time in The West", or, less musically, whips and gunshots) became a key textural element in the score. Most soundtrack albums attempt to remove these noises and leave as clean a piece of music as possible, but Zorn's tribute to Morricone goes to an opposite extreme: there is no aspect of noise that is alien to this album, and as such it is a surprisingly "faithful" hommage. The opening track is in practice an entire Spaghetti Western compressed into seven minutes, featuring a series of events and cues that the listener is encouraged to reconstitute for him- or herself. "Peur Sur La Ville" is a taut thriller, with the appropriate sound effects ... Read More:

For a relaxing couple of hours just to yourself, plug in the headphones and sit back and enjoy. The music flows pleasantly from soft and light to that more uplifting fibrancy that pulls you and your heart and mind to an edge of pleasure but without going overboard into the more emotional and vibrant pieces. For myself i have preferred using a travel mask to totally remove myself from the house around me! Really relaxing!

This music is just so beautiful it takes your breath away. The film was OK but this music is haunting. You must buy this CD and listen to it.
