Very catchy songs, some romantic others more soulful.
Of all the women he sang with (Diana Ross, Kim Weston etc), Marvin seemed most at ease with Tammi. (although they didn't always record their parts live in the studio together & some songs don't actually feature Tammi's voice at all!)
This CD contains all their hits plus some lesser known & diferrent versions of the hits.
You may be surprised how many you recognise!
Standout tracks for me include Ain't No Mountain High Enough, If This World Were Mine, You Ain't Living Until Your Lovin and The Onion SOng.
Well worth buying if you like romantic songs well sung.
Release Date November 10, 1997
This one was released at the end of 1971, and just missed the No 1 album slot.
It opens with 'I'm Still Waiting' from Diana Ross, a British No 1. When I hear it start, I can still feel my sun-burned back from that August. This was the start of Diana Ross becoming more popular here than in her native US. When they released it there, it stalled at #63 pop and #40 R&B. She also has another big hit on here 'Remember Me'. Her old group The Supremes were still doing well in the UK. Their exciting three part harmony lead on 'Nathan Jones' made our top 5, and I'm sorry , but to my ears it knocks spots off Bananarama's weedy cover. The girls also teamed up with The Four Tops for a fun but worthy verson of 'River Deep Mountain High'. ... Read More:

I have to say that i am a big diana fan and have collected the majority of her solo albums either on vinyl or those remaster for cd release, and have been to several concerts however this album is one of the treasures of her collect with a few covers and i must say i do prefer her rendition to Imagine rather than Patti Labelles (live aid) or even dare i say it John Lennons! Excellent album but i do prefer her To Love Again (1981) album (return to motown since early 70's).

The late Marvin Gaye remains one of the most definitive male voices in Soul music. He truly was an utter genius and had such a creative and artistic flair. He remains one of the key influences with todays new generation of wannabe Soul/R&B singers.
In October 1982, Marvin released his first (and his last) studio album for CBS Records, after fleeing from Motown Records in a bid, much like Diana Ross' exact reasons for escaping Motown, for wanting to exert total control over his career, an exercise he was most certainly capable of. The album would be the classic, Midnight Love, which though offered no social commentary or made any sort of profound political statement like much of his previous efforts had, it still stands as a compelling, solid ... For all that albums like 'Talking Book' and 'Songs in the Key of Life' are lauded as his best work, Stevie never put together a more consistently brilliant album than this. Unashamedly pop-orientated, this album bounces along from first to last and every single track could have been a single. Best of the lot, however, are tracks two, three and four - a fantastic reworking of the Beatles' "We Can Work It Out", the titular classic "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours" and the wonderful gospel epic "Heaven Help Us All". If you've never listened to a Stevie album - buy this, you'll be hooked. If you love Stevie and don't own this - shame on you!

It should really be called The Uncollected and a few which have been.
The only way you even know some of these songs is if you buy this album.
The Essential...should include Twistin' Postman,Beechwood 45789,Playboy,Too many fish in the sea for starters.
This last named was to my mind their finest hour-it was beautifully copied note for note by Nella Dodds on the Wand label as A Girl's Life.
Which happens to be the title of the CD of her complete works

I regard this as the best series of sixties compilations yet released on CD. Even with 200 tracks between four volumes, it would have been easy to continue the series. On compilations like this, I particularly look for classic tracks by artists who only had one or two big hits. Of course, most of the major names are here although you won't find Elvis, the Beatles or the Rolling Stones here due to licensing restrictions
As I expected, this volume maintained the standard of the first three. I was particularly pleased to get Telstar (Tornados) and Poetry in motion (Johnny Tillotson) on CD but there are many classic tracks here.
My favorites here include This old heart of mine (Isley brothers), Have I the right (Honeycombs), Last train to Clarksville ... Read More:

Now we know why "Moonlight, Music and You" (from the KFC ads) was missing off the original "60s Soul Mix" collection - because they were planning Volume 2!!
Of course the KFC connection is just a marketing ruse to help sell the thing, and it shouldn't really be needed. For this second album the compilers have dipped a little deeper into the Motown and Northern Soul barrell and, on CD1 at least, come up with some less familiar, but no less groovy, numbers, from lesser known acts but also from the likes of Diana Ross & The Supremes and The Marvelettes. CD2 has more of the well known tracks that many people will already have on earlier compilations, but overall there is sufficient variety and novelty here to make this a worthwhile investment.

A 2CD retrospective of mostly singles, some in album-length versions, and for once nearly always in stereo. The mono tracks, from 1964-1969, are Ain't Too Proud To Beg, You're My Everything, The Way You Do The Things You Do, Since I Lost My Baby, Run Away Child, Running Wild (single version) and Please Return Your Love To Me, and as usual there is no indication of this for the prospective purchaser. This is especially frustrating since stereo versions of all of these have been available and most have turned up before in stereo on budget compilations.
The collection is drawn exclusively from Motown's Gordy-label recordings (they also made 2 albums for Atlantic in 1977-1978) and begins in 1964, after they had spent two struggling years on the label, with Eddie ... Read More:
