Being someone who grew up in an era of mass produced nonsense like "the Spice Girls" "Boyzone" and "The Venga Boys" just to name a few, I often found myself listening to older music. As I grew older I found I was listening to more older stuff than new stuff!

But it just seems that whats on the radio or in the charts these days gets worse and worse. Which is why, when you find an album like this...purely by accident, it makes you long for the days of decent music!

I've never particuarly been a fan of Kiki, yet her Motown tracks are so differnt from her later work. For those of you that like that classic "Motown Sound" this is certainly that sound in its prime. In my opinion, it's the rarer Motown soungs that sound the ... Read More:

More Hits & Sing Holland-Dozier-Holland

Although four albums separate 1965's More Hits By The Supremes and 1967's The Supremes Sing Holland-Dozier-Holland, these two albums make natural partners since both feature only the compositions of Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Eddie Holland (abetted on I'll Turn To Stone track by R Dean Taylor).

This was the songwriting team most associated with the Supremes during their heyday, and both albums were produced by Brian Holland and Lamont Dozier. In the UK the second album was cautiously re-titled The Supremes Sing Motown in case the names were insufficiently familiar.

The Temptations had moved their sound from typical Motown fare, usually written and produced by Smokey Robinson, to a Funk based sound with Norman Whitfield in the producers chair. Starting with the Cloud Nine album, and continuing with Puzzle People (also available as a twoferone), they had mined the seam opened up by Sly Stone on Dance to the Music.

Where David Ruffin had been perfect for those Smokey tunes, Dennis Edwards, his replacement, superbly fronted the new Funk sound. I bought this to get a copy of their most famous fun hits such as ABC, I Want You Back and Rockin Robin and was pleased to find some other great songs that I hadn't heard before, other than the few really famous hits that are on the album though I wouldn't say much else grabs you and it seems that some really good songs from the Jackson 5 such as 'Blame it on The Boogie' have been left out.

Worth purchasing if your into them or just the famous songs otherwise possibly give it a miss. A nice addition to party music collections though.

The Contours had a second lease of life in the 80s when they were seen in Dirty Dancing the Concert Tour doing an extended version of Do you love me-their biggest hit from 1962.
Liverpool groups took notice including one called Faron's Flamingoes who covered the song on the same label which had the license to TM product-Oriole.
And the story goes that Brian Poole in conversation with the same wrote down the words from his record,recorded the song and topped the charts with it!
Hard to believe but it sounds like an urban myth to me.Why copy the words the sheet music was only a few pence.
This was the guy whose group the Tremeloes had been favored by Decca over the Beatles and needed a hit as their singles up to then had flopped.

With a selection of tracks from their most successful era, 1964-71, and a couple from the 80's, this album shows why they were and still are so popular. The brilliant vocal performances from Eddie Kendricks, David Ruffin and the others make this a nice addition to the collection of current Temps fans, and also a great purchase for anybody who has yet to sample the excellence of, arguably, Motwown's most successful supergroup. With tracks ranging from My Girl, Get Ready and Just My Imagination to Ball Of Confusion and Psychedelic Shack it shows the versatile talent of the quintet (give or take a few others) perfectly. The only criticism is that there are one or two other tracks that could, and maybe should, have been included.

This is a superb double-CD collection from the sixties. A better than average selection with high quality sound and covering the whole decade. You'll be pushed to find a better collection than this for the money. The selection hangs well together and there's just enough rock and soul mixed in with the pop to illustrate the tremendous changes that were taking place in popular music at that time. Recommended.

The Boss: Remastered the boss is one of the albums you should all have, its diana at her best, great songs' great singing' it is a must have cd. the songs from The Boss, No One Gets The Prize,Sparkle all just show diana's voice of to the best she can be. you have 2 what are called bonus tracks, the boss and the best song of all its my house both are 12' remix's. the song that does stand out as one of diana's great songs is I'M In The World, its a timeless classic and is the best song on the whole album. so do get this, enjoy

Edwin Starr born as Edwin Hatcher cut his first single as a member of a doowop group in 1957 and ended up living in Worcestershire England.
After a string of hit singles in the 60s came the chart topper War (what good is it) which like Barry McGuire's Eve of Destruction relates to everything today.
In the 70s he hit in the U K with HAPPY Radio-a great song which had an even greater cover by Michaela Strachan.
Starr did plenty of covers including the Joe Tex hit and that wonderfully titled one called Oops Upside your head.

this 3 cd set is a great cd and is a must for all. 42 hit songs from DIANA ROSS AND THE SUPREMES, DIANA ROSS, AND THE SUPREMES. how many singers can say they have that many hits under there belt,and still keep putting out great records,(not many) it comes with a small book which is a short history of the girls' the first 2 cds are full of all the hits we always get on a collection like this, but to get a 3rd bonus cd which has just the SUPREMES hits just becomes a great cd for all. this has been done befor but as far as i know this set is not avalible in the uk so if you dont have this it is worth the money and worth a place in any fans collection. just stick it on and listen to some of the best songs of the 60s,70s 80s from the best girl group of all time. enjoy......
