By the time these albums were recorded, Martha and the Vandellas were no longer the attraction they had been in the sixties, but the albums are still worth a listen by committed Motown fans.

The first album, Natural resources, was released in 1970. Only one single was released in America (I should be proud, which failed to chart) and no single was released in Britain. I should be proud is an anti-Vietnam song, which Martha delivers with real feeling. There are some covers here, including Something (Beatles), Put a little love in your heart (Jackie De Shannon) and Everybody’s talking (Harry Nilsson), but most of the songs are original, though none are as impressive as I should be proud.

Forget other compilations of the same name, for this is the definitive collection of the Temptations psychedelic recordings. Spread over two cd's this collection contains soul music history, at a time when the Temptations were trying to distance themselves away from the shackles of the Motown(pop)sound. Their leading writer and producer at the time - Mr Norman Whitfield - was having visions of his own, and together they would take the whole Motown sound thing to another level. Although label boss Berry Gordy Jr was not happy with this new direction, when the successes started flowing he was happy to bank the proceeds.

The year was 1984 and michael`was already a megastar with the sucess of thriller. So expectations for victory were very high and it was expected to be as sucessfull as thriller. But it didnt do nearly as well as expected and was considered a faliure. But it is the jacksons biggest selling album and for a good reason.... Its outstanding! The standout songs are the track 'torture' which is a great duet with michael and jermaine and is the second best song on the album. State of shock a duet with michael and mick jagger is a great rock song and the best on the album. And even one of michael's best songs. Since the release of this compilation the Motown catalogue has been extensively revamped and in the UK all the original Martha (Reeves) and the Vandellas albums have become available, along with some non-album bonus tracks, in the excellent 2 Classic Albums 1 CD series. Several of the other artists that were featured in the Early Classics series of the mid-nineties have been afforded the same treatment.

The purpose of the series was to present early album tracks and B-sides alongside some more familiar singles, and so has to some extent been superceded by the more recent releases, though they still serve as a useful low-priced introduction, and still feature some extra titles.

The Best of Gladys Knight & the Pips

This album gives an insight to Gladys Knight, a truly amazing and soulful singer, who is even better live. This album is not complete, in my eyes, as they have omitted to include Help Me Make It Through The Night, nonetheless it is still an enjoyable to listen to.

This is one of the best live albums. The Jacksons show enthusiasm and appreciation for the audience and thus making an amazing performance. The songs are from classic albums from Motown records,Destiny, Off the Wall and many more. This is the last live production that Michael did with his brothers having done his first solo album Off the Wall. The audience become a part of the performance because you can hear their expression whilst they scream which makes anyone wish that they were at the concert themselves. I would definatly reccommend this to any Jackson 5 fan.

I'm not going to waste your time by gushing about one of Tamla Motown's most famous acts - just to say that between 1964 and 1966 they were given their very best material by Holland Dozier Holland - and from 1967 there was a massive decline in quality . Their performances were always powerful but *Bernadette* and particularly *Walk Away Renee* and *Simple Game* can't hold a candle to memorable songs like *I Can't Help Myself*, *It's The Same Old Song* and *Ask The Lonely*
All the tracks are the original recordings digitally remastered and all in excellent sharp and exciting stereo !
There are five singles on the cd - apart from the three mentioned above there's *Reach Out I'll Be There* and *Baby I Need Your Loving*
