no offence to leona lewis she deserved to win x factor she was the best singer but for me she sounds like a mariah carey wannabe and thats not a good thing too much squealing you can sing in the style she does but in a more controlled manner and not just do that high note for the sake of it if you want a singer with good range and soul try minnie riperton shes fab what soul and voice she sings to the groove and the music is quality this album i got bought and hated it too rnb not original enough for me deffinitely no minnie riperton r.i.p. dont waste youre money on this!! anouther thing why does simon cowell rate her so much he is right up her arse he forget the talented mr will young will has a unique soulfull voice and he is distinctive leona ... This is a grudging four-star review (rounded up from three-and-a-half). I had come across Lakeman before in his local band Equation. I heard he had come up with a solo album based on local legends and my curiosity was aroused. This review addresses superficially the songs individually before looking at the album as a whole.

"John Lomax" is surprisingly good; making the chorus softer and quieter than the verses is very effective. "The Bold Knight" displays Lakeman's skilful handling of the violin. "Fight for Favour" is too sparse, whilst the title track displays marvellous energy in its violin cross-rhythms. The opening to "Farewell My Love" is a cringing parody of folk music. Difficult. Great guitar work but only in small doses for me because it is interspersed with insufferable interviews - Mayer undoubtedly has great talent but humility is not apparently one of his qualities. I generally prefer music DVDs to CDs but in this case it is the other way round. For a role model of a true guitar wizard who remains very humble and I would imagine very approachable look no further than Mr 335, Larry Carlton.

I caught Ida Maria live in London a few months back having no idea who she was and was very impressed with the gig. This album does capture their/her live feel to a degree and has a number of great catchy tunes with a few more less exciting numbers amongst them.
Musically its not rocket science - but I gather thats not the point.
Great album for a first up - hope the catchy tunes keep on coming and the strained vocals continue........

This is my favourite play at the moment, I guess that I am a little late in trying Mr Buble's music, but I am a convert. Think of a nicely warmed, quality single malt, good crystal glass, this is that smooth, just slides down, leaving a pleasant glow behind. Good in the car, great on the MP3 player, nice in the background during dinner with friends. This album has a great selection of tracks, well known classics of the genre, and others, new to me at least. Just try it!

The Subways have come on top form yet again. Its the kind of album you listen to over and over for days on end. With rock tracks such as Girls and Boys, Shake! Shake! and Obsession to softer tunes like Move To Newlyn and my personal favourite Lost Boy you will no doubt love this album. Lets hope The Subways stick aournd for a long time.

What a great album! By far and away their best, before they succumbed to Coldplay-type anthems on Seldom Seen Kid. Every track a winner, but "Very best" is well titled. Enjoy! Anyone that can get Stockport Supporters Club into the lyrics of a ballad is alright by me!!

The album is easy to get into but in time I found that it was not a keeper and gave it to a friend. For me 1973 is by far the best of the tracks but towards the end of the album the music is a lot less memorable.

Anyone expecting to find the future of roots reggae or dub on Natty's debut album will find little to please them. A friend of the Adele and Kate Nash set he offers instead engagingly breezy, reggae-fied feel-good vibes that go down well with a cold glass of cider and a barbequed sausage and only occasionally lean on Rasta-man cliches. The 24-year-old North Londoner is being pitched as our answer to Jack Johnson and on occasion he's as chilled out - but his fusion of social commentary and pop is closer to 80s UK ska acts like The Beat than US surfer dude.
