High School Musical is being talked about by teenager's everywhere, so I was determined to see what it was like. I asked someone I knew (who is obsessed with it) If I could borrow their copy of the soundtrack - And now I wish I hadn't. For staters the actual music is just over-used up beat dance tracks. With some weak mordern R and B thrown in. The things kicks of with a song entitled "Start of Something New". The song is merely just a badly written, horribly sang pop song. The vocals are very poor, there are signs of lack of emotion (in all the tracks). The second one, which is more of an R and B tune, is well irritating. All we know is, this is yet another quite solid grab bag of tunes - blessed and sanctified by the presence of the Stig, but you're not sure whether he can actually hear in these frequencies. There are quite a few recent tunes you'll know from heavy airplay and (over)use in ads ("Monster", "That's Not My Name", "Have A Nice Day") a few retro classics thrown in for the ironed-jeans brigade ("Raspberry Beret", "Logical") and a few odd curveballs to try and look hip and down with the kids ("Propane Nightmares").

This album is a great surprise. I didn't know what to expect when i bought it. I have the arctic monkeys albums and I like them, however I find them a little too much after a while, each song sounds similar, where as this album is full of great tracks which are written well and the production is, well wow. It has a big sound to it what with the orchestra and that. Each track has the feel that it can be released as a single and thats the mark of a great album. Most definitely the best album I have listened to for a good 10 years!

This compilation album needs little introduction as it has sold a zillion copies or something ;), and there is a reason for that. Nobody, not even The Beatles have created a finer collection of pop songs. Pop is often sneered at by some hoity toity music lovers, but there is no need. A finely crafted 3 minute pop tune can be just as meaningful and exquisite as any other piece of music. The tunes Bjorn & Benny created will live on forever, and the girls singing stays in your mind so very easily.

Obviously all the TT fans from 10 years ago will have the greatest hits album but this gives you chance to have the greatest hits plus the additions of several live performances and also a previously unheard track 'today I lost you' classic Gary Barlow lead with great BVs by the rest of the fab 4. A must have for all TT fans.

This is a really great selection of songs and even though most appear all too frequently on numerous compilations celebrating this period, the album would still normally rate five stars. However, I am surprised that none of the previous reviewers point out that not all the recordings are the originals as stated but inferior re-recordings that lack the nostalgia of the originals, e.g. Only Sixteeen by Craig Douglas, Wonderful Land by the Shadows and Pat Boone's Love Letters In The Sand. This really lets it down and there really can be no excuse for this from a label of the pedigree.

My Love: The Essential Collection

I bought this CD on pre-order a while back when it first became available and this is a very good and complete "greatest hits" from Celine Dion. However, that being said there is a 2 CD version available and it is much more complete. Considering (at present) the difference between them is £3 its well worth paying just a tiny bit extra for 36 tracks instead of just 18 on this version. I returned my copy of the "standard edition" and paid the little extra for the "Ultimate Edition".
