This is yet another uplifting and life-affirming effort from Seth Lakeman.
He seems to really divide opinion. I know a lot of people think he is overrated but I find it impossible to see him as anything other than one of the finest musicians currently working in this country! He is a superlative musician technically, able to play numerous instruments to a very high standard, a warm and inspiring singer and a first rate songwriter. The nay sayers need to seriously listen to him and not let some trad-folk prejudice against people who get things moving with a jaunty rhythm blind them. Listening to him is inspiring even when his songs aren't of the finest.
I am into all sorts of music but as far as folk goes I am definitely ... Read More:

4.5 stars actually. 5 if slightly more ambitious. For example, the long ending of One Day Like This sounds too formulaic. (Like Paul McCartney?)But anyway, it's the most beautiful album in a few years, which makes me to write the first album review in a few years.
It is a great wonder how something that reminds me of Coldplay can still sound distinguished from Coldplay. Does this mean Coldplay could have been a much better band than now??

Well, well, well, where have MGMT come from? They seem to have just popped up out of no man's land!
I have to say, when I first heard them on Radio 1 I was a little unsue. But after seeing them live and listening to their album I just can't stop listening to it.
The whole album is filled with hits, Time To Pretend, Weekend Wars, Electric Feel and Kids to name a few but to be honest I should really list them all!

This CD and the film its taken from has become a phenomenon. The children of Agape and their amazing, uplifting, harmonious voices have wowed audiences across the globe. I saw them sing with Annie Lennox at the Mandela 90th birthday concert and pre-ordered the 'We Are Together' DVD straight away.
When so many things in the world are sombre and dark; this music really will lift your soul and make you realise how much hope and optimism is out there.
Buy the CD. You won't regret it - and play your part in one of most talked about films of the year.
Nineteen of ABBA's best songs are plenty, but you won't tire of them. It is amazing that four Swedes (Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus as writers and Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Fältskog as the main singers) could take such simple English cliches and turn them into pop music magic. Despite sometimes maddeningly simple lyrics, the song arrangements were unnervingly catchy and the multi-level layered compostions are fascinating. The keyboards and synthesizers were used in some of the more ingenious ways during the seventies to produce that unmistakeable ABBA sound. The energy and nearly anthemic enthusiasm eminating from each song marked them all as instant classics, no matter how jaded or synical the listener. It is doubtlful if you read the song ... The voice is the first thing you notice. The early poetic renditions on such classics as "Suzanne", "Sisters of Mercy" and "Famous Blue Raincoat" are presented in a voice that is deadpan but not as gruff as in later years. This was at a period when he was a well kept secret and with a style and presentation that not everyone took to. Move onto disc 2 and you notice how the voice deepens and the songs become bigger. One thing that Cohen has never failed to deliver is quality songs with curious stories to tell. He has an almost hymn-like or gospel touch on a lot of his work, usually enhanced by superb backing singers and wondrous musicians and arrangements.
I move between both of his periods with equal ease, but I find the latter stuff more appealing these days. ... Read More:

I must admit I was cynical initially but I loved the Opening track 'The Age of Understatement' and was hooked after hearing 'Standing next to me'so brought the CD. Its an album full of lush strings, feelings and warmth. The songs border on the 'lovely' and are well crafted. Love the vocals esp on 'meeting place' and The time has come - both such 60's sounding film tracks. I'm a fan of metal and Rock ( Dillinger Escape Plan and Deftones ) but this album is so 'sentimental' that it will melt the most hardened metal heart- as its done with me- call me a big softie why dont you?

This Cistercian abbey has a continous history since its foundation. My only criticsm is that according to the Rule Cistercians should chant in the Ambrosian mode - very slow & ponderous, and this CD is a little too fast. One of the plus points is that Cistercians do not have choir boys so the overall effect is a deeper more inspiring chant.

Sick Mouthy....have you ever actually listened to Richard Ashcrofts lyrics? Ever? "More rubbish than usual"? Are you absolutely sure? Ashcroft on his day is one of the best lyricists in music....and similarly McCabe in terms of guitar....I was going to write a full reply but actually can't be assed....I just don't see your point mate. If you don't like The Verve fine, but to attack them simply because they have made a comeback is ridiculous. Appalachian Spring is classic Verve, Sit & Wonder is superb, Love Is Noise is one of the best live songs of the year, Noise Epic is pure Come on feel the noise without the sideburns and Valium Skies, Rather Be and I see Houses are absolutely heartbreaking and beautiful.....
Don't listen to this fool! 'Forth' is a great album.....just give ... Read More:
