After many recordings of the different productions and films of this remarkable show, the 2008 release of the latest Broadway revival is probably the most satisfying of them all!

Patti LuPone is playing the role of a lifetime here and quite remarkably puts the ghost of Ethel Merman finally to sleep. She also manages to take a little bit of magic from Merman's interpretation and take the role even further. Never have I heard Mama Rose sound so powerful, over-powering, but at the same time sultry and sometimes even sexy. One of Brightman's best albums and a perfect album for those fans who prefer her soprano abilities as opposed to the pop.

This album opens with a beautiful track in 'No One Like You' and includes one or two dramatic duets. This also includes the massive chart hit 'Time To Say Goodbye' sung with Andrea Bocelli, and one of my personal favourites - the famous 'O Mio Babbino Caro' that many will recognise that is recorded live.

This will leave a big smile on your face. It's such a sincere interpretation and a testament not only to Bergman's understanding of the work but also of the enduring appeal of the opera itself. All parts competently sung, but I would single out Papageno's as played and sung with perfection and great humour.

J.R.Brown - Songs for a New World-original Broadway Cast

This album is one of the finest musicals i have ever had the pleasure to listen to. Although the accompaniment is not a 'full' as most musicals (i.e. doesn't use a full orchestra) its instrumentation is well suited the the tone of the music. I was impressed with the versitality of the writing and the performers on the album are extremely talented, and are able to create different characters with ease for each song.
Although, i have not yet been fortunate to see Songs for a New World on stage as yet, I shall look out for tour dates in the UK. I am a huge fan of Jason Robert Brown, and i intend on listening to more of his work in the future.

My three older brothers loved it and saw it as a classic that would stand the test of time, and i'm telling you, they were right! Im now 23 and actually configured my dvd player just so i could buy this american dvd, the biggest shame is that it is not available to buy in this country!

If you are a true lover of 80s movies and appreciate that it was an era full of cheese, classic tunes and crappy dialogue, then and only then can you fully enjoy such a film! There is no point comparing it to films from nowadays becuase there is nothing out there like it! The soundtrack is too good and takes me back to when i was a child, maybe i love this film because i grew up ... Read More:
