It's true that some songs stand out like Captain Nemo and Salty dog, etc...but this album was put together so well it flows...One song to the the next seems to have a bridge between them, I don't have to skip any song!
Actually, among Sarah album, this one is harmonizing the best. I go to sleep every night with it, it always work like a charm! Once you put it on, you feel like you are going to a fantasy world or a dream then I fell a sleep before I know it....(ususally after Salty Dog which she did a perfect job with the highest point! ( I am the type who is hard to fall asleep, by the way)

This is such a good DVD, beautifully re-mastered and restored. The music is among McCartneys best and the soundtrack album that followed is one of my all time favorite Paul Mccartney albums. It should not be judged as a film, but more a series of music videos coupled together with some background story. True there is a storyline and it does the job to keep you entertained between the real treats (the songs), watching "Give My Regards To Broad Street over 20 years ago and again today, it still has a definate feel good factor and I just love the Eleanors Dream sequence, the music and the film is excellent dont listen to the critics!

This 'Follies' disc is a reissue of the 1987 London Cast Reording, originally on two discs (Social Dancing, a more or less inconsequential Act Two opener, has been omitted). This production featured a heavily rewritten version compared to the original 1971 production. Songs were cut and replaced, others were moved around and a new, happier ending was tacked on. Though the changes divided the critics (and the many Sondheim disciples), this CD is a fantastic record of that show.

The disc's trump card is the casting of its principles. Julia McKenzie has been described as 'the definitive Sally' and, listening to this, it is hard to diasgree. She has an extraordinarily versatile voice, and a genuine understanding of Sondheim's music and lyrics. ... Read More:

The main reason for this recording to my mind was for the sensational performance from Steve Balsamo. Not really sure why they didn't record the complete revival cast as they sang better than most of the stunt casting here. David Burt (as in everything he has ever done) was brilliant on stage. Joanna Ampil looked good on stage but was too lightweight vocally for me. The stars were Varla and Balsamo and for them alone this is more than worth the purchase price. I doubt as complete performance Balsamo could be bettered!!

This is one of my old time favorite movies. It is funny, entertaining, makes you sometimes cry, you will laugh a lot and a great lesson to be yourself, individual and not just keep in line what one is suppose to think and how one has to behave.

A snippet of time. The film made in the 70' with a seventies version of 60's hippies. There are some great views of the twin towers.

As with many film adaptations of plays, I the effort to take advantage of the media the essence of the play can get lost. Sure the songs are there but the filler is just that. The play as seen in its many incarnations is inspiring and makes one want to read the gospel of St. Mathew. However this version takes great effort to get through. Also based on the book "The Feast of Fools: A Theological Essay on Festivity and Fantasy".

Still this is the only recording we have to remember a play a time and a message. And the song "Day by Day" pretty much expresses the reason for the play and the reason to be part of the ... Read More:

Chicago: London Cast

If you are a fan of Chicago this is definitely the soundtrack to go for. I have heard the movie soundtrack and the Broadway soundtrack but this one is by far the best. Ruthie Henshall is stunning as Roxie, far more scheming than the movie version (sorry, Renee!) and I love Ute Lemper as Velma. A must for musical fans.

I have owned this recording on vinyl since the 70s and was glad to finally update to CD. I agree with the other reviewers, adding only that while Gillan's Jesus is outstanding (rivalled only by Steve Balsamo in recent years), it's Murray Head's Judas that is the exceptional vocal performance, and never really bettered by any since.

PS: If you're considering the latest cast recording featuring Steve Balsamo, one of the highlights is Alice Cooper's Herod. Priceless!
