Inspired by I Fagiolini's breathtaking live show, this film brings to life Monteverdi's madrigals of love and loss. It begins in a restaurant, where the buzz of conversation is soon pierced by a woman's anguished cry as her partner says he wants to break up. Gradually we realise that the same story is being played out at different tables. Flashbacks show how the couples all arrived separately at this crisis. The music expresses their conflicting emotions with an overwhelming intensity, and the singing and sound quality are superb.

i think this is the best compilation of ALW's music i've never seen; the sheer range of of the songs, drawing from almost every musical means there's something there for everyone to love, while i doubt there'd be anything to _hate_, either.
Sarah Brightman, Madonna, Jason Donovan, the list of stars go on, and the songs are all well known, popular favorites.
a must for all Lloyd-Webber fans!

Sondheim - Company

As much as I love the original Broadway recording, this revival from 2006 has surpassed it, in my opinion. Raul Esparza is adorable as Robert, and sings Sondheim's lyrics with passion and believability. The new orchestrations are inventive and catchy.

As much as I love the original Broadway recording, this revival from 2006 has surpassed it, in my opinion. Raul Esparza is adorable as Robert, and sings Sondheim's lyrics with passion and believability. The new orchestrations are inventive and catchy.

This is a review of the sound track; however I must mention of what where the music comes from. The movie would have probably not been made if Madonna were not part of it. There were many great additions to the movie that paralleled the real events surrounding the life of Evita, especially the portrayal of the Navel Cadets' uprising. The new lyrics fit in well also. I can understand some license taken when converting from stage to the big screen. I can even tolerate that Madonna usurped the "An Other Suitcase" song which deviated from the story so she could be the object of attention. However she does not have the range or stamina to sing such major songs as "Don't Cry for Me", being the major reason for purchasing this CD. I would have to say save your ... Read More:

My daughter bought me this for my birthday, cant stop playing it full volumn in the car. Cry everytime it gets to "slipping thru my fingers" I can really relate to this song. A must for every Abba fan and even some who aren't. All the cast did a fantastic job with all the songs, some better than others.
