It's a great treat to listen to this superb King and I soundtrack CD. The EMI-Angel engineers have skilfully and lovingly remastered the soundtrack recording such that the voices and orchestra sound clean, clear and vibrant. The critic-proof performances have spoken for themselves and hardly need any endorsement. I know the soundtrack means you only get to hear Yul Brynner in one song, but this is a small matter, for this reissue has given us some extra, tantalising music. It's great to hear the Uncle Tom's Cabin Ballet, superbly renderred by Rita Moreno as Tuptim. And it's also great to hear the underscore to the dialogue without needing to hear the dialogue itself. This version is superb with dialogue from the film. I play it so often one day the disc will fall apart because the laser will have weakened it, I'm sure!

Excellent performances from all the cast. Gerard Butler does 'Music of the Night' proud.

There are a lot of new productions tghat have come from broadway over the last few years but this has to be one of the best. I highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of musicals. It's a refreshing change from some of the rubbish that is being put out nowerdays. From the moving 'Still Hurting' right until 'Goodbye Until Tomorrow' I was gripped. The two performances from Norbert Leo Butz and Sherie Rene Scott are passionate and mesmerising. Im not going to tell you anything you don't need to know because all you need to know is THIS IS A MUST HAVE!

Whether you approved of Andrew Lloyd Webber's drastic revisions to Starlight Express in the early 90s or - like me - thought that the magic somehow got lost, a new Starlight Express album does not come along that often. So what's it like? Yes it's polished, yes it's (on the whole) well sung, but ultimately it's a dodo.

The main problem with this recording, just as with the revised version of the show itself, is with the voice of Control. An annoying, intrusive and clammering fake child's fake American accent wrecks the best sections of the album just as it did on stage. ive been able to relate to the films from the beginning but this one is by far the most emotional. the music puts across so many feelings that made me cry 4times throughout.

buy the CD after youve watched the film or you wont get the entire impact of the music.

I could not wait to listen to this soundtrack and I wasn't disappointed when I did. The songs are fun, upbeat and completely original. As a soundtrack it works really well with songs that move along the plot and give strong character based lyrics. Unfortunately if you want a spot on replica of the film you will not get it but the writers have done a brilliant job adapting this from the screen to the stage, keeping the original plot as closely as possible and yet making this a strong individual show.

For me the best number was the opening one "Ohmygod you guys!" it completely captures the Delta Nu s with a great sense of fun, easily integrating dialogue and establishing Elle's character from the onset.

This is the best film ever but try as I might I can not get hold of it for region 2. If anyone knows where or how I can find this film to play on my DVD player, here in England, I would be grateful.
Same goes for "My Beautiful Son" AKA "Strange Relations" in the American market.

I do like the original, but musically speaking, this recording is far superior. To start with, the two young leads have amazing voices. The first Tony and Maria were adequate, but not excellent. Kiri Te Kawana and Jose Carreras have excellent voices, but they sound too mature for the role of the teenage lovers. Hayley Westenra and Vittorio Grigolo are both young AND accomplished, and they bring such beauty and passion to the roles Tony and Maria.

The rest of the cast is great too. In fact, I wasn't expecting to like "The Jet Song" or "Cool," but Will Martin's compelling tough but strong trained voice brings real life to the Riff character, and I can't imagine anyone else doing a better job of it. This is a lovely selection of songs from Sarah Brightman - beautifully packaged in one of the most attractive pieces of artwork used for the cover of the CD. This could be a little deceptive into misleading people into believing that this whole album is 'classical' , but there is a mixture here, but for the main, this does contain more songs where Sarah is able to utilise her beautiful soprano voice to its greatest potential. 'Anytime, Anywhere' is a great example of this - along with 'Il Mio Cuore Va' (Italian version of Celine Dion's 'My Heart Will Go On')
