Well this is my first review on anything,so it must count for something.
I got this last week and must off played it at least 6 times in the car.
It's a joy to drive !
Thank you Classic FM for introducing me to this excellent album, and thank you to the honest reviews from the customers who had the sense to buy it.
The tunes are all different, not as some say the same, they grow on you.
A tune has been going through my head all afternoon and is as I type!
I'm not complaining.
The only problem I have now is deciding what to get next.

This was the first time I had heard the Libera group as I was sent the CD as a gift. To begin with I really didn't care for some of the music - remember I hadn't heard this style of choral singing before and it took a bit of getting used to, but I sat down on Saturday and listened right through and by the time it was finished I was hooked. I loved the setting of Bach's Air on a G String in particular, and then right at the end the performances of Blake's Little Lamb and the In Paradisum are exquisite. This is a very fine choir matching in quality the Westminster Cathedral choristers, and I really can't recommend the disk too highly.

I have been listening to Mike Oldfield since Tubular Bells and own every single piece he has ever produced including all the singles (who remembers Guilty, William Tell Overture, Froggy went a Courting?) Over the years Mike has reached musical brilliance but has sometimes, I think in an effort to be different, slightly missed the mark. (I found Guitars a bit disappointing)Although I keep in mind what Tolkien said about his book, in that what altogether was loved by some readers was sometimes hated by others. So it is also for Mike - but this is one of his finest pieces. When you first hear it you latch onto the familiar haunting Tubular Bells riff that sometimes appears but, like many of his other albums - what appears strange at 1st, grows on you until you ... This CD is the most boring amateur music I have heard in a long while. The cheesy and predictable melodies sound like a GCSE composition recorded by a school pupil. 10 minutes of listening and I wanted to tear my hair out! A definite miss.

what a fantasic album. i first heard of the penguin cafe orchestra on irelands classic radio whilst on holiday there. on my return home i bought a copy of "a brief history" and my ears have been truly treated. if you have heard anything by the pco but dont own any of their stuff, but like this sort of music then take the plunge you wont regret it and just like me treat your ears.

Einaudi seems to inspire great words of admiration from some listeners, whilst he causes me to reach for the off button. Words I would use are 'insipid', 'uninspired', 'repetitive', 'superficial' and 'boring'. Am I missing something...........

What a wonderful and uplifting album. I saw only a handful of 'The Tudors' episodes on TV but was captivated by the opening theme-tune. I decided to take a chance and purchase the soundtrack CD because of, partly, the other reviews and also the wonderfully cheap price some Marketplace seller's were advertising.
The score is terrific, with haunting melodies and sweeping flute's - very in keeping with the music featured in 'The Lord of the Rings' series. I personally found myself getting caught up in the music (and drama!) of the rising tunes.
Highly recommend - even if not a fan of the series (as I wasn't) because I doubt you'll be disappointed.

I never buy albums but Libera have made me want to buy all of theirs! Their voices are angelic! after i heard them for the first time, i never found a choral group who could sing as well as Libera! This is truly one of Libera's best albums! I recommend these songs:
-Sanctus
-Ave Maria
-Salva Me
-Voca Me
...especially 'Voca Me' and 'Salva Me'. There aren't any downsides to their music...unless you hate classical music...

This CD was excellent first-time round, but now digitally remastered, it is even better sounding. Vangelis is a genius - no argument. Chariots of Fire will always remain his most commercial output.
"Titles" is the main familiar theme. "Five Circles" is well known as well, having been added to compilation CDs. This CD is a soundtrack and nothing else but there are some ommissions from the film, for instance "Hymn" was used in the film but doesn't appear on the CD. "Hymn" can be found on a 1970s recording "Opera Sauvage" which is now available also on CD and is recommended. Watching the film recently, I chanced on hearing Vangelis calling on previous recordings and experiments. In "Abraham's Theme" I can hear "Reve" again from "Opera Sauvage". The main ... Read More:
