Like the film for which it is written, French composer Cyril Morin's score to Samsara is delicate and beautiful, a subtle aural companion to a story of love and the search for truth. It was Morin's first score for a major feature film, the one that took his career to the next stage after many years composing for European television. Coincidentally, Morin wrote his first score for short film, 1991's Khajuraho, for Indian director Pan Nalin, who 10 years later commissioned the score for Samsara, which was also Nalin's first directorial feature.

It's a beautiful day in spring. All is green, birds are chirping in the distance, and the undergrowth rustles with life blooming after a long hard winter. We hear footsteps - someone is walking through the grass. Troy Donockley plays sessions for many artists although if it was anywhere I guess he calls the band Iona home. The Pursuit Of Illusion is his second solo album and probably one of the best Progressive Rock/Celtic rock albums to be released over the last twelve months.

The title track is absolutely amazing and concerns the story of an illusionist of the early twentieth century Chung Ling Soo. The man was actually an American who performed as a Chinese man and performed the illusion of catching a bullet. This CD has all of the estudios from Carcassi, Sor and Brouwer which make it an essential disc to own if you are studying the pieces. I personally play the classical guitar to grade 5 standard and love all of the pieces on the CD and I feel that it has been of invaluable help in aiding me to master tracks 1 and 7.
If you play the classical giutar or just like to listen to classical music then this disc is well worth purchasing.
