Secret Garden are unfortunately a secret that few too many people know about - they won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997 for Norway and that should put 99% of the population off. However, listen to it without preconceptions. This is simply the best album I have in my collection built up over the last 40 years. The instrumentation is sublime, always sincere and somehow humble, belonging almost to a different time. The occasionally use of the vocal group Anuna is very effective and moving especially in the sad In Our Tears, written following the loss of a friend - see this performed on their DVD and not be moved. In the Garden of Pharao: Remastered

I'd heard of Popol Vuh and decided it was time to buy one of their best known albums, so I chose this one. Tracks 1-3 remind me of early Tangerine Dream (Alpha Centauri/ Zeit era) but I thought track 4 was not too good really and not on a par with TD's work in my opinion, but PV fans would want it for 'completist' reasons.

Tracks 1-3 are interesting and generally contemplative/ spacey with Moog, organ, some piano and percussion as the main instrumentation. The packaging is similar in quality to the recent Klaus Schulze re-releases - a nice mini booklet with info on Florian Fricke (key man in Popol Vuh), discography, photos etc. If you like TD's Alpha Centauri then you may enjoy this. Please understand me right - I love Kitaro music and because of it I judged it from his level of music : Not one of his best albums . I didn't feel anything when I listen to it ??? Not his way at all . If you are a newcomer to Kitaro - go to Mandala , Silk Road fist .
I gave it 4 stars only as my respect to Kitaro's earlier music .

On initial hearing, this album has the capacity to offend everybody! Anyone familiar and used to Vangelis's more known works like Chariots of Fire and 1492 might find the lack of tunes and weird synth sounds unusual and distressing. On the other hand, anyone who is more at home in avant guard electronic music might find much in this record that could appear tacky and cheesy! Yet in spite all this, I think this record has a mastery and beauty that is unsurpassable. I think it's one of Vangelis's best works.

The album has a suggestion of one performer with one synthesiser, with much stereo panning thrown in for effect. There are many moods expressed in this record, including dramatic, reflective, slapstick and serious, with many haunting ... Read More:
