When I first heard this I couldn't stop listening to 'Laissez moi en paix' it is just fabulous, it very gently uplifts you with simple, beautiful harmony. The rest of the CD is very nice too, its quite a mixture with bits of gentle jazz and even some renaissance classical undertones in places.
Ludovico Einaudi and Ballake Sissoko describe themselves as friends who made each other a gift of their music and I think this attitude really resonates in the harmonies - it's friendly and very beautiful.

It's already been 25 years since the analogue LP record of this album was first released. This was one of the earliest albums released by Windham Hill Records. I was only a teenager at that time, but since then I don't know how many times I've listened to this AMAZING piano solo collection.
For those who are not familiar with Winston's works, his piano style is not classical or jazz, and it's not like popular 'mood' piano and certainly not like a 'hotel lounge' kind of piano either. The sound of Winston's piano is clear, atmospheric and has a certain 'calming effect'. I'd recommend this CD to anybody who wants to spend the Christmas time and the whole winter quietly. It'd be a perfect Christmas present. If you've enjoyed his ... Read More:

Once again a soundtrack from Lisa - oh no, wait, this is supposed to be a real solo album. Hmm, could've fooled me.
I've been a Dead Can Dance-fan since they started, and when they split up and Lisa released The Mirror Pool I thought: wow, that's where the talent was all along, especially after hearing Brendan's bleak debut. But alas, you'll find no La Bas or Sanvean here. It's the same ethnic monotony as we've sadly grown accustomed to. The vibrant and melodious nature of DCD and her debut is nowhere to be found here, instead what you get is a loooong droooone of sounds that seem to form a sort of entities you could call songs, sprinkled at random with Lisa's voice.
There are two exceptions: Space Weaver, a Massive Attack-like ... Read More:

This outstanding and astonishing album was recorded in 1978 and released in 1979. That's almost 30 years ago. Although when listening to it, one gets the feeling that it could have been released a couple of years ago. That's how fresh and resonant Vangelis' music can be.
This incredible album starts off with a stunning opener "Chung Kuo". You almost feel like you're transported back to a forgotten time through China's Dynasties. You hear raging percussion and assorted sound effects along with more toned down keyboards. Then there's the enchanting and haunting feel of "The Long March" and the sensuously gorgeous "The Tao Of Love". It finishes off with "Himalaya", the longest track at 10 mins 53 secs which is very epic in feel and I ... Read More:

Found this gem while looking for something else entirely. The Penguin Café are new to me - but not their music. You'll recognise Telephone and Rubber Band from a well known advert and I've heard Music for a Found Harmonium a thousand times without knowing who it was by.
This is a wonderful compilation and a great introduction to PCO's music, some tracks date back to 1976 but it includes a great 1996 ORB remix Pandaharmonium.
The PCO was the brainchild of the English composer and multi-instrumentalist Simon Jeffes (1949-1997). You can read more about this fascinating band on www.penguincafe.com but the music speaks for itself.

Well, this soundtrack is good for a quick listen, but for film fans who adore the film it's not going to whet your appetite. The themes are either cut short or present in an edited form, and the majority of the music from the 117 minutes runtime (which was almost constantly underscored) is not on this CD. I would recommend avoiding this purchase if you're looking for a musical experience to match that of the film.
The best solution at this current date is to hunt down the Esper Edition bootleg, released recently (either late 2004 or early 2005 depending on who you believe). This is not the first bootleg of the Blade Runner music - 20 such versions exist, thanks mostly to the untimely release of THIS soundtrack some 12 years post the release ... Read More:
