I much prefer to listen to Richard Clayderman playing lively music to that of the romantic stuff he is so often associated with. That is why I really enjoyed this disc. The variety of tracks, especially "The girl from Ipanema" is sheer delight and makes wonderful listening whilst doing the ironing. I suspect not all Clayderman fans will enjoy this one, but I rate it as one of his best yet.

Post-minimalist composer Elliot Goldenthal established the early promise he more than fulfilled with this early stark horror score. Dark, moody and utterly compelling - Goldenthal blends minimalist repetition with modernist dissonance, all enveloped with a black coating of turbulent neo-romanticism, searing itself onto the listeners soul. This disc is well worth seeking out, a must for film score buffs and fans of modern music alike.
An all-time great score from a great composer - Goldenthal is god.

I've never seen "The belly of an architect", I came upon this soundtrack when somebody lent me a collection of Mertens' work that included "Struggle For Pleasure" which took my breath away; after that I bought the album. Listening to it without having any idea of the context in which the songs were placed did not affect my enjoyment of it a single bit. It's a marvellous album, it has all the feeling and power we've come to expect of Mertens, and yet it's different somehow, probably the synths adding something new to the mixture. In any case, with or without the movie, this is a wonderful album, (a note, it's 98% keyboards with just a touch of brass that might or might not have been synthesized) a number of songs follow a theme and some may find ...
