This album is a godsend. The three greatest pieces of music ever written are on here - Dirt, Rosasolis and Perpetuum Mobile. I still struggle to believe how great they are. It's hard to describe the style of music - modern orchestral maybe, though it's not avant garde. Penguin Café's music is amazingly relaxing, and always de-stresses me instantly. People always go on about certain artists deaths being a waste of talent - none more so than Simon Jeffes. I am just thankful he managed to do so much great work before he passed away. God rest his soul.

Vangelis's music for "Spiral" is both melodic and rhythmic, involving as it does the clever and imaginative use of sequencers. There are five tracks on the album, all of which are equally interesting. Unlike some of Vangelis's other albums, however, I don't find that "Spiral" communicates much depth of feeling - it seems to me more of a technical achievement rather than an artistic one. As a result it's not an album I tend to play very often.
The running time is 39 minutes and 1977 sound is of high quality.

On looking to expand my Harold Budd collection I noticed with some amazement that this beautiful album had no rating or review.Amazed because i have owned it many years now and am still deeply moved by its spectral beauty..there is,through all the tracks a continuity in the sound but the emotions behind them vary..from uplifting to haunting melancholy.I have several of Harold Budds albums..this one always returns to me though on a regular basis.
The feel of the album to me has an oceanic quality..the openess of the sky and sea whilst sailing through these everchanging musical atmospheres.Dont get me wrong there are no background nature sounds etc..its just the feeling it gives to me.

This is a little masterpiece. A wonderful voice combined with
wonderful music. I don't find the right words. You have to listen
to it and you'll understand me better.
Very very beautiful CD !

This album is just stunning. I first saw William Joseph at Manchester MEN in May and I sat there with shivers down my spine the whole way through!!
All excellent musicians should play their instrument as is if it is an extension of their soul. He makes the piano come to life - it sings, it dances, it cries. This album has everything: energy, passion, sensitivity.
You won't be disappointed with this if you love music.

This album appeared a couple of years after the Bladerunner film, and you can hear elements of Vangelis's soundtrack on this album, however it is'nt son of Bladerunner, far from it.Vangelis blends his usual synthesiser sound round a choral soundtrack. He brings in repetitive motifs to the tracks, all called Movements,1 to 6,however some of them are achingly beautiful,at end of Movement 3,4 and 5,just wish he would give credit to the vocalists on this album, they certainly contribute to the enjoyment of the pieces. If you enjoy Vangelis with a certain amount of darkness you will love this.I feel that this album and Soil Festivities are two of his most under-rated works.

This review assumes that the reader is already familiar with the magical stress-busting qualities of the Secret Garden blend of instrumental and vocal New Age music, but perhaps has not taken the plunge and purchased any of their albums yet. If not, then reading the reviews from their other albums should leave you in no doubt that this is wonderful music for relaxation. Mostly gentle, contemplative music but with a few tuneful Irish style jigs thrown in to vary the tempo.
This 30 track compilation distills the best from their first 4 albums and therefore is indeed the 'ultimate' collection for those who just want one representative Secret Garden album. The recent "Earthsongs" is not represented here, but frankly that is no loss!
