I usually don't like compilation CDs, but the previous two reviews are right - this is something special. I have just bought seven copies to give as Christmas presents. Whatever your mood, this wonderful recording lifts you up and transports you to a land of misty meadows and dreaming spires. The transposition of the theme tune into the major key on 'Goodbye Sir' is such a fitting tribute to a great actor and a great TV series. Goodbye Sir - we miss you.

Loreena McKennit is a very skilful musician and she combines simple themes with complex arragements. The music is traditional-celtic-folk style with a new-age twist. The musicians who perform on this CD are to a very high standard and the mixing is done well so that all instruments can be heard properly. A great deal of work has gone into producing this album, as has been done with Loreena's later work. The pieces are all very different, though "Bonny Swans" does get rather tedious and there's a tendency to fast-forward to the next track after one minute of it. However, if you like traditional celtic folk music, you're sure to enjoy this one.

Bought this thinking it would be an Enigma-tic experience. What I got instead was much, much more - 1. dancey tracks that lend themselves to contemporary dance choreography, and 2. absolutely melodious compositions. Enigma's stuff is overrated. This is king.

For a composer who has produced such timeless tracks (mainly those from his first album, Adiemus) Karl Jenkins seems to have let himself down a bit with his predecessing efforts. The Eternal Knot has an Irish influence running throughout, but I find the often highly tedious vocals rarely blend with the Celtic sound. The styles of some tracks are also unoriginal, with a very blatant method of adding "Irishness" to the cauldron of sounds. If the vocals were not sung by a choir of smurfs (the lead singer doesn't actually sing specific words; as Jenkins has previously admitted, they are made up sounds) I might actually be able to enjoy this album a lot more than I currently do.
The only songs worth a listen are Cu Chullain, King of The ... Read More:

After hearing Hassell's collaboration with Brian Eno on "Possible Musics",I had to hear more and this album was the launchpad for me to acquire every album he had made up until then - and since! It opens up with the title track, deeply percussive and ponderous in rhythm, and continues this way into the next track until we enter the creepy sounding 'Solaire' which embellishes it's darkness of sound with subtle electronic touches - the best track on the album for me! The second half of the album moves into Eastern Asian territory musically with percussion and trumpet eerily dancing a duet aided by an impressive array of musicians such as Michael Brook,JA Deane,Richard Horowitz,Brian Eno,and Jean-Phillipe Rykiel.I still think "Power Spot" is his best ...
