I own six Clannad albums, the first of which I bought twenty years ago. Macalla, originally released in 1985, is not just my favourite Clannad album, but one of the best-loved albums in my entire collection. I believe it is their strongest and most widely accessible work. Whereas their earlier albums were strongly rooted in the traditional folk genre (lovely, but not always accessible to the eclectic listener) and their later albums leaned more strongly towards pop and new age (to my folk-leaning ear, usually too sweet and over-produced), Macalla is a beautifully conceived crossover album. The Mask and the Mirror

Loreena McKennit is a very skilful musician and she combines simple themes with complex arragements. The music is traditional-celtic-folk style with a new-age twist. The musicians who perform on this CD are to a very high standard and the mixing is done well so that all instruments can be heard properly. A great deal of work has gone into producing this album, as has been done with Loreena's later work. The pieces are all very different, though "Bonny Swans" does get rather tedious and there's a tendency to fast-forward to the next track after one minute of it. However, if you like traditional celtic folk music, you're sure to enjoy this one.

Buddhist Meditation

Not recommended for anyone expecting chanting monks or useful triggers for meditation (my mistake when I bought it). Full of background music, which is distracting to mind focus. OK for lying in the bath or background fill-in during parties.

Reiki: Hands of Light

I've found that so called 'new age' music starts to sound the same after a while! Not so with Deuter's beautiful, light music. This is just one of several that I now own, and it's one of my favourites. Perfect for a Reiki session, and also just right for a quiet Sunday morning, relaxing with the papers!

I really can't recommend this CD highly enough - it touches you deeply.

If you enjoy this, I also encourage you to listen to Deuter's Earth Blue, and Wind and Mountain, which are also perfect for creating a calming, serene environment in the home, car, office, shop.....or wherever!

This album, originally released in 1973, was Clannad's first offering to the world. Already on this first album Clannad made its mark (at least in my opinion). As the band's name indicates, Clannad (which means family), was comprised of one sister, Maire her brothers Ciaran, Paul Brennan and their twin uncles Noel and Padraig Duggan (Paul would later leave the group to pursue a musical career of his own). Certainly an intensely Irish musical family and their joy in making music together is evident throughout.

Of Kenny G's CDs, or at least of the ones I have, this is a rather quiet and expressive set. Of course, it's geared for those who like Kenny G, and so is my review.

I don't think Kenny G is jazz. He's strictly easy listening or adult contemporary, although there are jazz embellishments here. This is a saxophonist expressing himself to those who choose to listen, and he creates an intimate atmosphere for his fans.

No, he's not one of the great versatile musicians, but he expresses and entertains those who are in the same flow that he is.

The only ones who mention his name in the same breath as Miles Davis and John Coltrane are his bashers. I haven't heard any Kenny G fan compare him with these jazz greats. ... Read More:
