This wonderful album represents a kind of bridge between their earlier more purely meditative/new age albums ("through These Eyes", "A 100.000 Angels") and the extravgant pop/soul og "You".
On this album there are certainly elements of pop and soul. As always every song is well-written, and the lyrics thoughtful and artistic. No doubt with an element of reflection and downright sadness creeping in, giving an added depth to the proceedings. And I always feel a tear pressing, when I hear the lines "Just jump off that cliff/And be you you're born to be". To find the courage to make the lion's roar and claim one's divinity!
As always the hauntingly beautiful voice of Lucinda Drayton is at the front. Like Sonia Loinsworth ... Read More:

I first heard this album when I was taking classical piano courses in college. It was, and still is, an inspiring album for a piano player, as much for the mixture of styles as it is for the sheer pleasure of the tunes.
This is my favorite George Winston album, even though I have worn out December over the holidays. The songs evoke so many mental images.
The initial track, "Colors/Dance" always makes me picture a ride through the woods, with it's simple melody and background chord progression.
"Longing/Love" is one of those songs you want to play, even if you don't know how to play the piano.
My favorite track is "Moon", starting out slightly fast paced that the other tunes with a little sustain ... Read More:

This is the place to start with the music of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra. It's hard to describe where the music is about; its minimal music with built-in humour and melodies. The feel is acoustic with a few electric guitars and basses thrown-in. There are sounds that nudge towards chamber-music, but there's reggae too. Highlights are the classic Music for a found Harmonium, the dreamy Music for Helicopter Pilots and the sunny In the Back of a Taxi.

This album is a godsend. The three greatest pieces of music ever written are on here - Dirt, Rosasolis and Perpetuum Mobile. I still struggle to believe how great they are. It's hard to describe the style of music - modern orchestral maybe, though it's not avant garde. Penguin Café's music is amazingly relaxing, and always de-stresses me instantly. People always go on about certain artists deaths being a waste of talent - none more so than Simon Jeffes. I am just thankful he managed to do so much great work before he passed away. God rest his soul.

I agree with the previous reviews, in that the visual aspect is dull. However the musical reworkings are excellent, and add a new slant to well known compositions.

Listening to this cd takes me somewhere very special. It's as if some kind of bliss comes over me and I feel carried away... It's absolutely amazing and I plan to hear other cds by Snatam to see if the effect is the same.

I was pretentious enough as a teenager to make this the soundtrack to my alienation. I listened to it on headphones on lunchbreaks.
Years later, it stands up as an album of incredible breadth and emotion, from the heartbreaking descents of Sparrowfall to the paranoid isolation of M386 and A Measured Room.
There is nothing on Music For Films that isn't fully formed and worthy of inclusion. Among Eno's masterpieces, this is perhaps the most neglected and best realised.
