This album is a godsend. The three greatest pieces of music ever written are on here - Dirt, Rosasolis and Perpetuum Mobile. I still struggle to believe how great they are. It's hard to describe the style of music - modern orchestral maybe, though it's not avant garde. Penguin Café's music is amazingly relaxing, and always de-stresses me instantly. People always go on about certain artists deaths being a waste of talent - none more so than Simon Jeffes. I am just thankful he managed to do so much great work before he passed away. God rest his soul.

I was pretentious enough as a teenager to make this the soundtrack to my alienation. I listened to it on headphones on lunchbreaks.
Years later, it stands up as an album of incredible breadth and emotion, from the heartbreaking descents of Sparrowfall to the paranoid isolation of M386 and A Measured Room.
There is nothing on Music For Films that isn't fully formed and worthy of inclusion. Among Eno's masterpieces, this is perhaps the most neglected and best realised.

Azam Ali is an exceptional talent both vocally and instrumentally, as you hear right from the first track - a 14th Century love song sung in Old Provencal which is accompanied by such an eclectic assembly of instruments as Persian santoor (played by Ms Ali herself) and Armenian duduk. It reads on paper like such a modern arrangement shouldn't work, but it does. And then from France we go on a tour back and forth through Europe. There are songs from Spain & Portugal sung in Judaeo-Spanish and Galician, more from France sung in Provencal, from France & Germany sung in Latin, instrumentals from Brittany and Sweden, and even a visit to the middle East with a cover of a Byzanto-Arabic song (from Byzantine Chant) originally by one of my favourite ... I recently undertook Reiki I and was keen to find some suitable music to use whilst self-treating. I came upon this CD by accident but clearly it was a guided accident (if indeed this can be called an accident!). This is a great cd for the newly attunned healer. It is wonderfully relaxing and the addition of a gentle chime at three minute intervals helps to guide the healer through the treatment. I find that it is particularly good for my morning self-treatments!(not too long) I would recommend this cd to anyone, whether Reiki attunned or just looking for music to meditate or relax with! Lay back and enjoy!

Williams pre Sky. I am not a fan of Cleo Laine so the four tracks featuring her are off my playlist but the rest are well worth a spin. Quite a mix of styles with some classical, some close to Sky, some easy listening.

The aim of the CD is to lower the listener's breathing, heart rate and predominant brain wave activity to those associated with deep sleep. This is performed by a combination of natural sounds, music and binaural beats. The natural sound is surf on all five tracks, with the addition seagulls on the first two. The music is composed to be simple and smooth, yet it doesn't sound banal. The binaural beats induce brain waves at the beat frequency between notes, primarily those in the bass range . I don't use this CD for sleep inducement, but as an aid to relaxation and meditation. My favourite tracks, "light of the moon" and "celestial glow", both have a delicate beauty and just melt away stress.

When I am teaching about stress management, I always mention that there are those beautiful audio cds that some people find them helpful to relax with and and that bring the positive effect of nature contact in their lives. I bought this collection of three CDs to use them as examples and to also use them during stress-management or self-awareness activities in the workshops I run. As this collection consists of three very different cds, I reviewed them separately:
1. Summer sounds: I appreciated the minimalism of the accompanying music and the nice flow of a variety of sounds (water, birds, etc).Just great.
2. Rainforest reverie: the bamboo flute was quite relaxing and serene, but there were very very few rainforest sounds after all.

I was a little worried about buying this album, fearing it might be a repeat of a lot of that "New Age", cheesy synthesizer music that I hate sooooo much! But I needn't have worried, this album is sublime. I use it both for background music and whilst doing the Mindfulness of Breathing buddhist meditation. The Chinese Erhu is plaintive, almost sad and extraordinarily beautiful and appears on 3 of the 8 tracks. The rest of the album has a less "Oriental" feel, but is nevertheless very, very beautiful. I have taken a liking to Deuter now and am looking forward to listening to more of his music. There is not one track I dislike on the album. And even the synthesizer which I dread so much is used beautifully, like ambient layers of bliss. The music is simply lovely ... Read More:
