I must agree that this is in my opinion my favourite compilation of Vangelis's music. This is the one I play most, then followed closely by Gift.
With Vangelis's Best Of and compilations growing almost daily, you can not go wrong with this. What makes it really good and different is that you have Memories Of Green from the elusive See You Later cd.
Overall this CD is a very good selection and has a nice flow to it, slip it on and relax. Don't worry you have 13 tracks before the Chariots of Fire theme. By that time you will have reached a chill factor of let it all play man, all is great with the world and you can spare 3 minutes 31 seconds of your life, and listen to it again like I just did.

... I prefer the "old" Jean Michel Jarre. All in all, there is a lot of brilliant moments in the album, like Fresh News (absolute awesome), Vintage, Melancholic Rodeo, even Beautiful Agony and Téo & Téa 4:00 AM.
As last word about this album it's a very fresh album and unexpected from the Jarre trademark. This is both a bad and good thing at the same time.

This is the place to start with the music of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra. It's hard to describe where the music is about; its minimal music with built-in humour and melodies. The feel is acoustic with a few electric guitars and basses thrown-in. There are sounds that nudge towards chamber-music, but there's reggae too. Highlights are the classic Music for a found Harmonium, the dreamy Music for Helicopter Pilots and the sunny In the Back of a Taxi.

If contemplation had a melody, the music contained in this album would be part of it. Harold Budd has been writing and performing exquisite music over many, many years –you must listen to "Pavilion of Dreams" or "The Pearl," his collaborations with Brian Eno in the 70's, if you need proof– and although not incredibly prolific, each time what he has released has been worth the wait. "La Bella Vista" ranks among her most accomplished in recent years, which might sound strange given the spontaneous circumstances of its recording at Daniel Lanois eponymous house in the Mojave desert –the story goes that he did not even know he was been taped during the first piece– yet it is. The music here is meditative, spacious and beautifully ... Read More:

This marriage of Eno & Byrne and the concept of taking non-music stuff off amerikan radio and stringing it to music may not sound too promising but it is astonishingly listenable. 'Jezebel Spirit' and 'America is Waiting' are mesmeric and this album rocks with rhythm and strangeness.
The call to prayer tracks and 'Help me Somebody' - spiritual stuff. It's also a great insight into the variety of stuff on the radio if you care to go looking for it, not that I do, too much hassle. You know, when you're skipping through the channels and suddeny get someone saying "All dormice are made out of marzipan" or similar and think "Whaaa?". The fact that they have done the spadework and stitched all of the highlights together for us is genius. I promise ... Read More:

A classic album, full of humour, inventiveness and colour. Listening to it now, I'm blown away by the painstaking work that must have gone into producing this on old analogue equipment: Moogs and suchlike. A star is lost for the abysmal quality of this new "surround" mix. Whole chunks of the melody get lost in the midfield at times. A huge shame.

This is a beautiful album that I would recommend to anyone, not just those with an interest in folk music. Some will find the strong Scottish accent difficult at first but perserve, this is pretty much as good as it gets. Great songs, great playing, genuine passion, much humour and a superb recording for good measure.
The highlights are `51st (Highland) Division's Farewell To Sicily' and a cover of `Ruby Tuesday' that makes the Stones original sound lifeless. There is no dross here - put the effort in and this album will repay you in spades.
