Ottmar Liebert liberated the sounds of Spain by improvising and originating music that leaps and dances to its own soulful expressions. Call it "noveau" ... that it is ... while not entirely Flamenco, in the traditional sense, the Spanish origins are unmistakable. The passion, energy, spirit, and soul of Spain is the creative impetus for this beautiful music. The listener is taken on a joyful ride as whirling energetic vortices surround the listener and remain with them the rest of the day. New energy is created and disapated ... making anyone within hearing distance more in tune with life and themselves. Pure pleasure! Pure passion! Purely personal! Erika Borsos (bakonyvilla)

There is evidence that sacred sound in the form of pure sounds, music, song and chant has been applied as medicine from ancient times. Some consider it the most ancient of all therapies. Pythagoras was aware of this. Others who wrote about the therapeutic effect of music on the soul include the Persian scholar Abu Nasr al-Farabi (872 - 951) who discussed music therapy in his book Meanings of the Intellect and Robert Burton in his extraordinary tome The Anatomy of Melancholy (1621).
The subtitle of this sonic masterpiece is Healing Code Tuning Forks & Ancient YHSVH Chant. The music blends two sounds: the tones of tuning forks cut to 9 frequencies known as healing codes or Solfeggio Tones and the vocal mantra chant Yod Hey Shin ... Read More:

Excerpts from these three masterpieces make up the first half of this collection, and serve to tease. Taken out of their concept album context, for me they somehow lose their impact. (Perhaps I'm over familiar with the originals.)
The second half of the set, made up of excerpts from arguably less successful projects, including "White Rock" and "Criminal Records" actually sounds better. No less keyboard pyrotechnics, and some excellent back up on bass and drums from his mates in Yes, Chris Squire and Alan White. Then to finish a short rhapsodic piece on solo piano ("The Palais") that stops just as you realise how good it is.
Overall, a good introduction to Rick Wakeman's most prolific musical period, but it may leave you wanting ... Read More:

When I am teaching about stress management, I always mention that there are those beautiful audio cds that some people find them helpful to relax with and and that bring the positive effect of nature contact in their lives. I bought this collection of three CDs to use them as examples and to also use them during stress-management or self-awareness activities in the workshops I run. As this collection consists of three very different cds, I reviewed them separately:
1. Summer sounds: I appreciated the minimalism of the accompanying music and the nice flow of a variety of sounds (water, birds, etc).Just great.
2. Rainforest reverie: the bamboo flute was quite relaxing and serene, but there were very very few rainforest sounds after all.

This version of Merlin is much my favourite - the lack of the backing tracks allows the listener to hear the full beauty of the music. This whole album is soothing and gentle and shows the versatility of Wakeman the man and his music.

Williams pre Sky. I am not a fan of Cleo Laine so the four tracks featuring her are off my playlist but the rest are well worth a spin. Quite a mix of styles with some classical, some close to Sky, some easy listening.

This rerelease of old Krishna Das lacks the silence that seperates the tracks on the origanal cds so one is hurled from one track to another without the space to apriciate where one has been. Ideal for anyone who is new to KD's fantastic kirtan sessions but a bit of a waste of time for all us old fans.
