"Téo & Téa" is Jean Michel Jarre's first album of entirely new material since "Geometry of Love" (2003). As someone who enjoyed both that album and "Sessions 2000" before it, I was interested to see what new directions Jarre would take with this one. In truth it is difficult to pin down any particular style or theme running through the album: tracks range from dance to trip-hop, ambient to simply undefinable.
The album opens very strongly with the upbeat "Fresh News" followed by the excellent title track. This latter (as well as its longer mix, the bonus track "Téo & Téa 4:00 A.M.") is easily the highlight of the album, combining the quirkiness and strong melodies we have come to love from Jarre with a catchy dancefloor ... I'm not really sure where Lovely Thunder ranks among Budd's other works. There's no denying the brilliance of The White Arcades or even the classics he did with Brian Eno (The Pearl & The Plateaux Of Mirror). Thunder ranks near the top simply for containing elements of those releases.
So powerful is "The Gunfighter" that it could have been used in any Sergio Leone film. I can see Clint Eastwood clamp down on his cigar everytime i listen to it. Budd shifts gears in dramatic fashion. Forcing you to feel the heat and isolation of "Sandtreader". Driving you into your sweltering introversion. "Ice Floes In Eden" plays like a cold sweat. Thunder claps of tension filled withdrawl, enhanced with the definitive drama of a syringe hanging from ... Read More:

I own six Clannad albums, the first of which I bought twenty years ago. Macalla, originally released in 1985, is not just my favourite Clannad album, but one of the best-loved albums in my entire collection. I believe it is their strongest and most widely accessible work. Whereas their earlier albums were strongly rooted in the traditional folk genre (lovely, but not always accessible to the eclectic listener) and their later albums leaned more strongly towards pop and new age (to my folk-leaning ear, usually too sweet and over-produced), Macalla is a beautifully conceived crossover album. The majesty and beauty of Clannad's traditional folk harmonies and Celtic musicianship are enriched and enhanced on Macalla by exciting, sophisticated pop, rock and ... Read More:

I'll be really honest - I'm disappointed with this. I suppose it's unfair to expect a third album of the calibre of Antoher Green world or Before & After Science but I suppose that's exactly what I was hoping for, and this isn't it.
I like Eno's singing voice but it appears he doen't. At least three tracks here feature that bloody awful vocoder thing that Cher used years ago, and it spoils the tracks completely.
The dynamics I anticipated aren't here; the "open spaces" are filled more often and the songs are just not up to the standard I anticipated - I've lived with this album for a while before reviewing because of the way I felt.
It's okay but really nothing special.

The music industry in a fickle business, ruled as it is by fashion and pop. However there are artists out there producing work of beauty and depth. Pierre Bensusan is one of these.
His wonderful last album, Intuite, focused on Pierre's solo instrumental guitar work. Altiplanos develops this work whilst presenting a number of vocal pieces only heard by those lucky enough to see his live act. We also hear three group performances in which Pierre re-employs some of the electronics heard on earlier albums.
For me though it's the solo guitar pieces, demonstrating Pierre's outstanding compositional prowess, that do it for me. He is one of the most eclectic guitarist/composers currently performing and Altiplanos continues to draw on themes and ... Read More:

For some reason I was never able to get my hands on a copy of Kosmos on vinyl and had to wait for the CD release to come out and how I enjoyed it. The dynamic range is amazing and although purists of music may laugh its one of those albums that you can listen to time and again.
So I was very happy with this CD UNTIL I got my Surround Sound system.. and now I am VERY VERY happy... Tomita and the RCA engineers must have had fun playing round with the mix to get so much movement into the tracks. Instruments chase each other round the room but not to a point that makes you feel travel sick. I thought the dynamic range was good on normal stereo..its even better with surround sound and the sub woofer.. "Space Fantasy" really does shake the room with its ... Read More:

If you're reading this review you're probably considering whether or not to buy this CD- and therefore I sympathise. With books it's somewhat easier: you can find out the basic plot, and if that interests you, you read reviews- by which time you can be pretty sure whether you're going to enjoy it and if it's what you're looking for. With music it's a bit more difficult, and a hundred times more difficult to convey. If you've ever played those party games where you have to hum the first few notes of a tune and everyone else has to guess what it is, you'll know what I mean. However, I feel the product description given above the reviews succintly embraces the essence of this recording, and accurately reflects its beauty, so if you haven't already, do read it. ...
