a very tranquil and relaxing album. the music flows so beauyifully that you cannot help but relax to it. I purchased this album about a year ago and i play it regularly, it must be nearly worn out. I would recomend this to anyone that just wants to relax. Phillip chapman has done a brilliant masterpiece here.

Choosing CD's in the 'relaxation' genre can be a slightly fraught business, as it is often not clear what you're buying. Often natural sound recordings are mixed with music; very annoying if you're seeking 'clean' recordings and can't stand second rate new-age instrumentals.

No problem with that here. 'Moutain stream' is exactly that. A clear recording, almost an hour long, of a fast flowing, babbling stream. Not just that, of course. This mountain is evidently forested, as beautiful birdsong is heard throughout. My only niggle; I would like to have known where it was recorded.

Like most other people I was introduced to the music of David Bedford through the Mike Oldfield 'Collaborations' boxed set in 1976.

I bought the original (recorded in Matrix H Quadrophonic) and am delighted to have the crystal clear CD recording.

This album is worth the money for the title track alone. Play the title track LOUD. The rest of the album is superb too and one of David Bedford's most accessible. It still sounds fresh, 25 years later.

Tai Chi Too

I have several CDs by OS and this, after a few listens to start with, has become my clear favourite from his excellent Tai Chi/Qigong music catalogue. This is China with more than a Tibetan influence containing both soulful and spiritually uplifting music. There is some excellent East and West traditional instrumentation - no prominent synthesized sound here - with occasional singing/chant singing. If I have a criticism it is simply that one later track is a bit too wordy for me. Nevertheless, for the Tai Chi practitioner I challenge you not to find tracks suitable for form work. If you have been to China, even Tibet, this will invoke strong memories. If not, enjoy yet another gift from the East.

The music of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra is the most elctric music I have heard in a long time. It takes classical Music to a new edge that will make the hairs on the back of your neck literally stand on end.

The repertoire is a wonderful mixture of spine tingling and calming, serene and bombastic. There is something in here for everyone. There are many pieces that are quirky and funny and ones that will have you applauding out loud with the audience from the concert! I have done so myself on many a piece! Buy this CD, lock yourself in a quiet place and down a bottle of wine and you will be "chilled" to horizontal proportions!

Solar Plexus/Belladonna

I bought Solar Plexus in 1971. I felt it was very atmospheric
-especially "Snakehips' Dream", which I wore thin. I actually preferred it to Miles' "post Bitches Brew" work of the time.
In retrospect, it represents the pinnacle of their early work, refining the techniques an ideas of the first two albums.
The only other Nucleus I bought on first issue was 1973's "Roots", with Dave McRae's compositions which gave it a different feel.
Good Though these are, It is to the eternal shame of the UK music industry that regular recording opportunity and promotion was not given to some of real UK jazz greats of that time such as Kenny Wheeler, Alan Skidmore, John Taylor, John Surman, Gordon Beck, Keith Tippett, and eventually ... This album has one thing in common with Metal Machine Music: there are four instrumental tracks. There the similarities end. Metal Machine Music was the result of two hours of harsh feedback sped up to twice the speed to garner the final effect. It was also deceptively promoted as a Rock N' Roll Animal type product, which led many purchasers at the time to be disappointed with what they got (and the album was pulled off the shelves after three weeks). Of course now, in hindsight, Metal Machine Music was a brilliant study in "noise" music and has been reissued many times for a more appreciative audience.
