without doubt, this is one of the best piano / Christmas albums for listening to whilst opening presents and having Christmas lunch. Buy it for Next Christmas - you will not be disappointed
Release Date May 12, 2003
This is absolutely perfect summer barbecue music. Also ideal for playing very loud in the car with the windows open - the kind of music that makes you wish you had a convertible.
Best track: Track Two - "Beat Me 'til I'm Blue", which deserves to be a retro-funk classic. It is absolutely criminal that *everybody* doesn't know and love this tune.

I couldn't believe it when this album came out because I was actually there at the time.
Why did the announcer say 'thankyou for being patient"? That was because the entire audience had been kept out on the pavement of Tottenham Court Road for about an hour after the concert was supposed to have started - before finally being let in.
It adds a bit of frisson or memory to an excellent album

In this CD Jocelyn Pook appears to bring together an amalgam of east and west, orthodoxy and innovation. It is the epitome of T.S. Eliot's description of art as 'the objective correlative of a particular emotion'. Many of the compositions are highly innovative without being pretentiously ground-breaking. While the awesome 'masked ball' from Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut may - deservedly - be many people's way in to this CD, the other compositions too are wonderful. 'Blow the Wind Southerly / Pie Jesu' for example brings together the richly poignant voice of Kathleen Ferrier with a beautiful musical phrase and words from the Christian Eucharist. At this point, it is worth noting the excellent vocal discipline of the singers on this CD.

"Once in a red moon" is a symphony for instruments and voice, echoing hebraic and medieval, celtic and spanish musicalities. The elegiac theme in "Awakening" is resumed and varied all along the album, finally ending with dramatic tones of requiem in "Elegie". Two other compositions stand out from the instrumental part: the energetic "Invitation", a record of joyous sonority and beating effect, and "Fairytale", a musical ballad with trobadoric rhythm. The vocal part is dominated by "You raise me up", where Irish voices of Belfast singer Brian Kennedy and Anúna choir are called to illuminate the spirituality of the lyric, and "Gates of dawn", where the powerful, Gaelic melodiosity of Scottish singer Karen Matheson is transposed in a solo performance in English ... When I first heard this I couldn't stop listening to 'Laissez moi en paix' it is just fabulous, it very gently uplifts you with simple, beautiful harmony. The rest of the CD is very nice too, its quite a mixture with bits of gentle jazz and even some renaissance classical undertones in places.
Ludovico Einaudi and Ballake Sissoko describe themselves as friends who made each other a gift of their music and I think this attitude really resonates in the harmonies - it's friendly and very beautiful.

By 1982, Tangerine Dream had restored their reputation somewhat with this line up of Edgar Froese, Chris Franke and Johannes Schmoelling. They had recorded two successful albums with 'Tangram' and 'Exit'. They had also enjoyed another well received soundtrack album, this time for the Michael Mann directed, James Caan starring heist movie, 'Thief'. Tangerine Dream were back in big demand.
'White Eagle' showed the band returning to their old experimental ways.
The album opens with a twenty minute epic, 'Mojave Plan'. It's a fantastic piece, split into three or four different sections with a driving rhythm throughout the track, giving it an almost industrial, machine like feel. It also conjures up mental images of travelling through otherworldly, desert landscapes. ... Read More:

This is the first of the three Stockley album releases and has a lot a person could say about it.
Having a background in session work, with credits including backing work for solo Queen projects & the 80's SAW productions she's moved more recently into more classical lines, from her original South-African roots (clearly evident in her music) into collaborations with Mike Oldfield, her soundtrack projects and even yes, Peter Rabbit, and her current album "Eternal" returning to a more classical focus, showing her great versatility.
This album she states included 5 composers, and is "contemporary classical" whilst reflecting many musical styles, being a contemporary songwriter and performer. As such it does succeed in appealing to her intended wide audience ... Read More:
