It's already been 25 years since the analogue LP record of this album was first released. This was one of the earliest albums released by Windham Hill Records. I was only a teenager at that time, but since then I don't know how many times I've listened to this AMAZING piano solo collection.

For those who are not familiar with Winston's works, his piano style is not classical or jazz, and it's not like popular 'mood' piano and certainly not like a 'hotel lounge' kind of piano either. The sound of Winston's piano is clear, atmospheric and has a certain 'calming effect'. I'd recommend this CD to anybody who wants to spend the Christmas time and the whole winter quietly. This is indeed a perfect partner for the subsequent "A Hundred Thousand Angels" album. The first 2 tracks alone should convince you that this is another meditation classic. It has the same winning formula of tuneful, contemplative music enriched with Lucinda Drayton's haunting vocals - a CD that you can actually sit back and listen to enraptured. A CD that really can help ease the cares of the world away, unlike the vast amount of banal 'musical wallpaper' that is on sale in garden centres, health shops etc. under the banner of 'New Age'. Don't buy these poor substitutes - go for the real thing, and whilst you are at it, perhaps treat yourself to some Secret Garden as well.

Venice in peril is superb as is many of their pieces however obscure to those who have no wide knowledge of classical music..it is said to bridge the gap between modern and old, this it does with an air of mozart in many ways..they look mysterious and do very few performances, so get what albums you can...unfortunately I went to IMPORTCDS.UK who failed to deliver my copy nor did they answer any e-mails about the order which was meant to be delivered by the 11th of May at the outside..its now the 22nd so I guess their refusal to reply means that I will not get it despite paying...amazon says they cannot refund..so I say go elsewhere for your order even if it costs a little more for reliability.

This outstanding and astonishing album was recorded in 1978 and released in 1979. That's almost 30 years ago. Although when listening to it, one gets the feeling that it could have been released a couple of years ago. That's how fresh and resonant Vangelis' music can be.

This incredible album starts off with a stunning opener "Chung Kuo". You almost feel like you're transported back to a forgotten time through China's Dynasties. You hear raging percussion and assorted sound effects along with more toned down keyboards. Then there's the enchanting and haunting feel of "The Long March" and the sensuously gorgeous "The Tao Of Love". It finishes off with "Himalaya", the longest track at 10 mins 53 secs which is very epic in feel and ... Read More:

This collection of songs if by no means for the purist looking for a CD of Medieval music. The Babes rework and reinvent the songs giving them a contemporary feel without loosing the otherworldly feeling. The mix of voices are beautiful and I find it's a great relaxing CD

Also worth hearing is Snow, McKennitt's own setting of a poem by Archibald Lampman, one of Canada's earliest poets.
