I was a kid when Robin Hood aired in the 80s, and my Aunt bought the soundtrack on cassette, which i promptly stole and took with me to play on my walkman whenever we set out in the car. Something about this music just immerses you into another world, of mystery and magic. You can almost smell the trees of Sherwood Forest and feel the English early morning summer mist against your bare skin. "Lady Marian" is my personal favourite track, but all are brilliant.

Found this gem while looking for something else entirely. The Penguin Café are new to me - but not their music. You'll recognise Telephone and Rubber Band from a well known advert and I've heard Music for a Found Harmonium a thousand times without knowing who it was by.

This is a wonderful compilation and a great introduction to PCO's music, some tracks date back to 1976 but it includes a great 1996 ORB remix Pandaharmonium.

The PCO was the brainchild of the English composer and multi-instrumentalist Simon Jeffes (1949-1997). You can read more about this fascinating band on www.penguincafe.com but the music speaks for itself.

I found this music to be tacky and poor quality in comparison with other CDs of this style. The title does not fit at all, there is nothing to put you in mind of forests and it could benefit from more natural sounds.

There are several CDs in the Ambient Heaven collection; I also bought "Dawn, which I found to be pleasant and definitely better than this one.

A lot of people dislike the Medieval Baebes for being supposedly pretentious and beloved by pseudo-romantic Goth types - but that's basically just musical snobbery. I mean, come on - with a name like 'The Medieval Baebes', who's stupid enough to actually think they're aiming to appeal to lifelong Medieval Music scholars?

Really, you get far more out of them if you stop thinking of them in relation to other classical music and just love them for what they are - which is accessible, charming and unpretentious Medieval-esque choral loveliness.

The middle-english (or occasionally Latin) lyrics will probably not make sense to your average listener - (best to look at the sleeve notes before you attempt a sing-along!), but if you're ... Read More:

If you have just stumbled across the now classic Eno Ambient series and were wondering which one to try, look no further. I own 10 Eno discs and to me this is the most evocative and engaging. The album created a feeling of growth and emergence right from the opening track, 'Lizard Point'.

Dunwich Beach, Autumn, 1960 is my favourite painting a picture of romantic, nostalgic euphoric recall from an event real or imaginary.

This disc is as engaging or as 'background' as you want it to be and to achieve that took real genius from Eno. Buy it.

Before and After Science

After reading all the other reviewers intellectual drivel I thought I would just say that if you have never heard a brian eno record then this is a great place to start. The 10 tracks on this cd show exactly why brian eno is one of the greatest british artists of all time.

I've owned this on vinyl for 15 years and then on cd for 10 and it sounds as good today as it did when it was first released.
