This album is a step up from 'Quiet Life' which marked the beginning of the new, sophistocated Japan culminating in their final ( and best) album, 'Tin Drum'. It's probably the most accomplished and subtle electro pop album of its time. While lacking the world music/ electro synthesis of the latter, its pretty melodies and lush ambient textures make it a very pleasant listening experience indeed. The title track, 'Methods of Dance' and 'Swing' are the most lively and immediately appealing, but the Satie-esque 'Nightporter', and 'Burning Bridges' are calming and atmospheric. Two songs originally from the 'Polaroids' EP, 'The experience of swimming' and 'The width of a room' and included here are fully fledged, beautiful ambient pieces. The oblique ... Read More:

Blancmange- Mangetout 2xcd 2008 (remaster)
------------------------------------------------
here it is again, my favorite album from them..
it was a masterpiece when it came, and has
survived the test of time...
although blancmange did not seem to last very long
(3 albums), what they did put out, had a nice impact
at the time, at carved out a niche for them, that no
other group can really fill...
granted, not every track is a winner('my baby','see the train'),
but the majority of them , 'game above my head', 'dont tell me',
'thats love that it is', 'blind vision', and 'the day before you came',
are so strong they carry the album to the great heights
that it deserves... ... Read More:

Guys 'n' dolls were a six-piece middle of the road pop group that had two UK top five hits in the early seventies with There's a whole lot of loving and You don't have to say you love me. David Van Day and the Canadian-born Thereza Bazar broke away and became the duo, Dollar. While their music had some similarities with the earlier group, it had a much more contemporary feel with plenty of synthesizers and other electronic wizardry, which will not necessarily appeal to the same fans.
Most of Dollar's UK hits, including three of their five top ten hits (Mirror mirror, Give me back my heart, Oh l'amour), were recorded for WEA beginning in 1980. This compilation focuses on the recordings they made for Carrere in and contains most of their recordings from that ... Read More:

A fairly preposterous proposition at the best of times, Bauhaus occasionally came up with a killer art-rock tune - but boy did you have to sit through some pretentious guff to get to it.
Their most famous song remains 'Bela Lugosi's Dead.' Extraordinarily long for a single released in 1979, it still exudes a clammy dread. Pete Murphy's ghoulish, disembodied voice is perfectly suited to the hammy tale of bats and belltowers, vampires and virgins.
'She's In Parties' is a fine single, for once the strangulated guitar enhancing the song not detracting from it. 'Kick In The Eye' is loose, funky, danceable. The urgent, dramatic 'The Passion Of Lovers' is another top track, as is the excellently titled 'Terror Couple Kill Colonel.' And the band's aggressive, ... Read More:

At last, all the classics are on dvd. After watching the video to "L.A.Woman" back in 1990 I have been trying to find it somewhere, anywhere. David Fincher's vision of a very decadent L.A. still captivates. Billy sings the lyrics surrounded by flickering flames, drives a black ferrari to a club and then pursues a leggy super model. And the songs not bad either. "White Wedding" must be one of the most memorable videos from the eighties. The church setting, the dancers in black catsuits, the bike smashing through the window and the balletic bride herself are all memorable. It is all very eighties glam punk but still very watchable.
The cd has all the hits and two exclusive tracks. But "John Wayne" and "New Future Weapon" do not have the edge or replay value of the early classics - the man is getting ... Read More:

This is by far the best Thompson Twins hits cd on the market. As many reviewer here will state there are many compilation cds avaliable and it can be a minefield trying to navigate your way through them. The 12" collection was interesting for the extended versions of Twins tracks many on cd for the first time but was severely lacking in the design and presentation department. With a generic cover part of a series of cds with an abstract picture of the Twins on the front. But this release uses the original Thompson Twins font and colours and three headed logo on front with decent pictures of the Twins. An aproach that I think works well.
But its musically that this compilation stands head an shoulders about the rest of the best of cds. It is the inclusion of these rare previously unheard versions of songs ... Read More:

New Order is a rather mysterious band in many ways. It has pre-history and continuing influence by groups such as Kraftwerk, Eno and the Velvet Underground, and various other experimental electronic-based European groups. It also has a strong shadow cast over it from Joy Division, an ironic name for a group whose leader (also the founder of New Order) Ian Curtis committed suicide. Enigmatic to the last, New Order members (who drift in and out of other band arrangements; the latest perhaps being Bernard Sumner's work with Electronic) tend to be less than specific when talking with the press, and their albums are conspicuously devoid of liner notes.
This CD, entitled (the best of) New Order for once contains some liner notes, which alas are disjointed, following the same fuzzy logic of information as in the past. ... Read More:

"October", the second album, is perhaps U2's strangest record : hastily written and recorded, it sees Bono as an evangelical Christian, espousing the virtue of God over a curiously uncohesive musical backing. Some of the songs here are clearly the sound of a band racing against the clock to create enough material for an album, and it is, therefore, the weakest U2 album in their canon. There are some unrecognised moments of genius (such as the title track itself), but these are few and far between. The bonus disc is also, once again, rather underwhelming. All the non album songs of the time are included (aside from an alternate mix of the title track that was on a compilation release), as well as an assortment of live b-sides, and a third of a rather brilliant concert the BBC recorded in London in December 1982. The whole show is worthy ... Read More:

I never rated the Cure when they first started. All that stuff about jumping other people's trains, killing middle-easterners and not crying 'cos you're a boy didn't do much for me.
However a mate persuaded me to go and see them on the "Faith" tour and I was blown away. Bought "Faith" the next day and, when "Pornography" came out, I just had to have it (made even better by the childish pleasure of asking my parents to buy me "Pornography" for my birthday).
I loved "Faith" and I loved Joy Division, the Banshees, and the rest of the post-punk crowd, but this was something else.
With an opening line of "It doesn't matter if we all die" and a closing line of "I must fight this sickness, find a cure", and a whole range of (un)healthy emotions and obsessions explored inbetween, this was just the thing to listen ... Read More:
