Okay, so a few years later they blew it (largely due to Mick McNeil leaving the band and depriving them of the musical alchemy shared between himself and Mr.Burchill) but at this time in their career, Simple Minds had reached their peak. I disagree with anyone who slags this album off for being too "big" or "pompous". Yes it was, but so were Queen and so can U2 be, but isn't that why people love them???
I'm not taking anything away from the earlier albums "Life In Day", etc , "Sons and Fascination" had some great ideas and, arguable "New Gold Dream" is more subtle and mysterious and "Sparkle..." a some cracking tunes, but "Once Upon A Time" had greater ambitions and wanted to take this one step further.

Non Stop Erotic Cabaret (Deluxe Edition)

I remember buying this on vinyl all those years ago and thinking WOW!! Forget the pop of 'Tainted Love' I musch preferred the darker Soft Cell - 'Youth', 'Frustration', 'Bedsitter', 'Entertain Me' and 'Say Hello, Wave Goodbye' were my favourites back then. This is an essential early '80s album.
One major gripe (althought it might seem minor!!) the Non-Stop Ecstatic version of 'Sex Dwarf' on Disc 1 has been edited by 3-4secs - it is missing the 'How was that?' ending. For some inexplicable reason this ending then appears at the end of the 'Memorabilia' extended version on Disc 2 - seemingly very sloppy of Some Bizarre that - unless it is just my version??

A chronological collection of XTC's singles for Virgin these highlight the band's development from post-punk power poppers to sublime songwriting craftsmen...slightly quirky lyrics and off kilter rhythms separate them from most bands' output, and there is an edge to Andy Partridge's songwriting which makes you think there is a dark side to his personality reflected in his songs...Colin Moulding is more pop oriented but still entertaining for all that. "Senses working overtime" is my favourite here, but there are at least half a dozen others that deserve the epithet "classics". Great collection.

I already own this classic album in 3 forms, LP CD & remastered CD.
Having purchased this on the strength of the live gig, I'm afraid it's painful listening. The band sound great but the vocals are out of tune & I've found it unlistenable. Why would the band (Mac?) authorise this, there must be better gigs to release?
Stick to the remastered Ocean Rain CD & save your hard earned....

This would have made an excellent EP. When Bob knocks out a good song it's really worth listening to. But truly great tracks such as 'How Beautiful You Are' and 'Just Like Heaven' drown in a horrible porridge of musical indulgence. There are simply too many bad tracks here.

The good ones stand out gleaming like carrots in Saturday night pavement sick. But tricky to pick out without getting slime on your fingers.

But now you can buy individual tracks as mp3 files so all you have do is find out is which are the good ones and which are the bad. Clue: There are 12 horrible tracks and five good ones.

This is a fantastic complete collection of the fantastic 80's syntheseiser duo Yazoo (Alison Moyet and Vince Clarke). It contains both of their albums, Upstairs At Eric's (No. 2 in 1982) and You And Me Both (No. 1 in 1983) and a third CD of A-B Sides and 12" Remixes and a DVD of both the albums in 5.1 Mix, Promotional Videos, A Short Film and Yazoo At The BBC.

It contains the classic "Only You" which made No. 2 in the charts in April 1982 and my favourite track of theirs "The Other Side Of Love" which made No. 13 in November 1982. The 7" and 12" mixes are on CD3 of this collection as it did not appear on either albums.

If you are a fan of the 80's then this is a must buy for your collection, you won't be disappointed. This is a fantastic value for money box set. ... Read More:

I love this album it starts off with the amazing stand and deliver which is amazing and then there is prince charming which is a masterpiece ans continues to his solo career with goody two shoes which is truly great but then it continues on to one of the best songs on there which is antmusic i hope you enjoy.

After literally years of waiting, longing for this album to be issued on cd, I am delighted that Cherry Red have seen the light and obliged.A stunning set from an all-girl outfit, it still mystifies me how this band have slipped and remained under the radar for so long.Much is made of the post punk cannons of the Au Pairs, Kleenex and Girls at our Best, but the Mo-dettes were in my view just as good.White Mice and their inventive cover of Jagger/Richards Paint it Black are just two of many highlights and the thought of this great band being rediscovered by fans of quality music, is almost as welcome as tghe release itself!!

Or when The Jam took off and really started fulfilling the potential they had shown with a string of singles and intermittently on their previous albums In The City And This Is The Modern World. All Mod Cons see's Paul Weller embracing a more English stance to his song-writing , with undercurrents of 1960,s pop like The Kinks - so much so they even cover the Kinks song "David Watts". The albums title also alludes playfully to the bands prevalence in the Mod revival.
The songs on All Mod Cons are often about ordinary people , or places but viewed through Weller's coruscating filter .
