the third album failed to capatolise on the success of "into the gap"..but then it is one of the best albums of the 80's
the first actual release "lay your hands on me" is here..and athough not regraded as a tt classic i would beg to differ!
the album was preluded by another single "don't mess with doctor dream" which stop a step back to the quick step album....a clever song with its anti drugs message..but by now a lot of us wanted more angst love songs delivered to an electro beat
along the way you get some songs worth of "into the gap" like "future days" "you killed the clown" and "emporer's new clothes" but a the other album tracks dont match the quality!

If you listened to Annie Nightingale on a Sunday night you would have heard Dr Mabuse regularly. So I bought the 12 inch. When the Album was released I bought it. ZTT were one of the music labels that were just 80's cool. And if you watched Channel 4 American Football Jewell covered the plays of the week.
20 odd years later this is an album I still play. Some feels a bit dated........(wait, the good bit is coming soon) especially D Mabuse, and the weakest tracks are Murder of Love and Sorry For Laughing, but it's not too embarrasing to play to your teenage daughters.
So if you are 50, or 40, or 30, or teens give this one a whirl

For me this is still the definitive Bowie collection. On two discs you get 37 songs spanning his career up to 1993. Presented in a chronological way this collection allows you to move with Bowie as he developed his style with experience and trends of the time. With such gems as 'Space Oddity', 'Starman', 'Ashes to Ashes', 'China Girl' and one of my personal favourites 'Modern Love' and more besides, this album has so many outstanding tracks to whet your appetite. Bowie always was and is an innovative artist, with a flair for songwriting and performance and this album is the best place to go for your first introduction to what he has to offer. Superb for those new to Bowie and still invaluable for those who have some of his albums. Highly recommended.

If you grew up in the 70s / 80s this should be an essential part of the soundtrack of your youth.
Starting from 'In the City' it is phenomenal to hear how clean the Jam sounded from the start, and how they quickly progressed to the many hits that were the mainstay of their career.
Pleasing also is that amongst the 29 tracks you also get such album classics as A Bomb and English Rose.
Overall this is a good alternative to buying the back catalogue if you want more than just the top 20 version of the band.
Release Date September 11, 2006
I must say this is there tour de force as far as I am concerned , less bombastic than Adolescent Sex, more smooth than Obscure Alternatives and just about better than Gentlemen Take Poloroids and Tin Drum.
Every Track is a winner as other above albums have highs and several lows.
Sylvians voice is on top form here between the screech and the drone,Its a a shame they couldn`t add on I Second That Emotion instead of 3 versions of the sublime All Tomorrows Parties and 2 versions of Quiet Life.
Cest La vie.

This is basically a very shoddy and thrown together compilation. With a dance culture being such an integral part of the whole New Romantic/Synthpop world it seems nonsensical to me that the versions of the songs on this compilation are not the 12 inch mixes. And it's not as if the 12 inches of tracks like "Fade To Grey", "The Damned Don't Cry" and "Night Train" were those barely extended longer versions that plagued us when 12 inch versions started to become commonplace in pop as opposed to disco and funk at the start of the 1980s. Visage 12 inches as with a lot of their electropop ilk were often imaginatively extended and so far superior to the 7inch edit. And they're still not available on CD and they wonder why people download for free.

As a 14 year old at school seeing the Mary Chain do 'In a Hole' on BBC2's Whistle Test in early 1985 was the starting point for a journey into alternative culture for me, a journey that continues to this day.
It's hard to describe how crap music was in 1985, even the independent scene was living on the fag ends of punk, then came this...quite simply one of the most original records ever recorded.
I'll always remember playing my school mates-who at the time were big fans of Phil Collins, Tears for Fears and Frankie Goes to Hollywood- 'You Trip Me Up', and trying to convince them the feedback soaked melodies sounded like a top ten hit!
Thank you Jim, William, Douglas and Bobby you saved my life!

A marvellous collection of some of ABCs catalogue of excellence on a pretty reasonably priced CD.It's like a night out in an '80's disco but without some of the godawful dross produced by certain other bands of the time, that you had to endure!!
ABC were a top '80's band & the hits they had were a testament to the quality they produced. This CD is a really enjoyable nostalgia trip for those who enjoyed them first time around & a great starting point for those who may have just discovered them.
For me the pick of the crop for showing off Fry's vocal talent is "All Of My Heart" but classics like "Look Of Love", "Poison Arrow" & "When Smokey Sings" keep the quality coming.
A bargain in every way - buy,buy,buy !!

OK; admission - I, like many others, saw Bowie at MKBowl on the Serious Moonlight tour and loved it. We'd grown up with Bowie; all those long nights at friends' houses listening to Space Oddity, Rock n Roll Suicide, Queen Bitch and, later, The Subterraneans and "Heroes". Now it was time to discard the pretensions of youth, and grow up to be flashy little capitalists, riding on the wave of post-recession England, and look..our hero was in the van, blonde quiff and all; all newly heterosexual and acceptable to our mums. I must admit we all fell for it, whilst, in the back of our minds, we knew that this was not the real deal. This was Bowie fronting a series of session musicians, garnered by Nile Rogers, stepping in at the end to take the royalties after years of mediocre sales from classic, genre shifting ... Read More:
