Featuring all of Duran's mega 80's hits, and a few 90's ones you may not be familiar with, this collection of hits is an excellent compiliation of the bands best work.
Almost timeless hits on here which quite rightly get their due, a Duran Duran greatest hits had been long overdue, and in 1998 with their commercial success at an all time low, this release was a timely reminder of how good they are.
Re-released in 2004 to even better commerical success during a sell out UK tour, Duran Duran proved that chart success may only be temporary, but class is permenant.

The Best Of: 1980-1990

Although the band still manage to create great songs and sounds it was during the 1980s that they arguably produced some of their best work and indeed, created some of the songs of all time which made the band the worldwide phenomenon they are today.

Songs like Pride, With or with out you, I still haven't found what I'm looking for and Where the streets have no name are now iconic and serve to represent what was a golden era for U2 and the music world in general.

Even if your not bothered about the B sides this compilation is simply brilliant and well worth owning. For me it should be in any music lovers collection.

Joshua Tree was made at a time when the band weren't as wrapped up in their own importance, or maybe before we had noticed it.
It is full of the earnestness that has become their trademark. In later albums this became too forced for this cynic's liking at least.

The album is full of memorable songs, perhaps Trip through your Wires is the weakest one but all the others cry out for repeated listening.

Bono is perhaps the ultimate lead singer, making himself the centre of attention with his performances and lyrics. However a song like "Mothers of the Dissappeared" makes you believe that his heart is certainly in the right place.
The Edge's guitar drives the songs forward again and again and Adam and Larry round off one ... Read More:

Ultimate Collection

Eurythmics made some of the greatest sounds of the 1980 in many genres, not just the standard synth-pop. Lennox & Stuart also made a major contribution in the forgotten band The Tourists before the birth of Eurythmics. Unfortunately this album contains too many tracks already available on Greatest Hits.

Some less inspired songs from the 1990s have been added. This really shows a lack of interest and imagination in view of the huge treasure trove of classic album tracks. The compilers could have chosen The Last Time from Revenge, Jennifer from Sweet Dreams, Shame & Beethoven (I Love to Listen to) from Savage, When the Day Comes Down from We Too Are One and Belinda & She's Invisible Now from the obscure first album In the Garden.

You gotta admit that this is the business when a quintet of South Londoners ignored the whole punk thing and got down to making music in the style of the 60s and 70s.Especially the 70s when Wings ruled.
They said Difford & Tilbrook were the new Lennon & McCartney-thats the bands built in songwriting unit but though many times they were as good there were no takers for their songs other than their own original versions.
Maybe Squeeze should do a covers album as Difford & Tilbrook make their own albums either solo or collectively.
Maybe somebody should do a tribute album-with so much variety the songs could easily be done 50s style.
As it stands Squeeze never had a No 1 hit and not much of an American career so they are bound to live ... Read More:

Let Love in

I discovered Nick Cave properly after seeing his name appearing in random and varied places - singing with Johnny Cash, on a free magazine compilation CD, on a Jools Holland song... when I bought Cash's American III and heard Mercy Seat, that was the final straw. Away I went to YouTube to listen. And I wasn't disappointed. I went off to buy albums - strting with Boatman's Call, it was good but not the side of Nick Cave I had been intrigued by. Then Murder Ballads and, ecstatically discovering he had a new CD out, Dig! Lazarus Dig! and barely a week ago form today, I bought Let Love In along with 2 other albums. From experience, buying albums together usually means I don't get to know thm well enough, or the songs seem to blur together. Not so on this one.

The Best of Simple Minds

I have liked Simple Minds since I was a kid,(they are now one of my favourite bands, Def Leppard being the other). I wasn't even born until 1985,so by the time i knew about them and started to like them, their stuff was not as good as their earlier stuff.

I was given this CD a few years ago, and it is one of the best presents i have been given. It was wonderful to hear all of their best songs from their career, especially the really early stuff like Love Song, Promised You a Miracle and Glittering Prize and Theme For Great Cities, all on one album. Although their later stuff is not as good as the earlier, they still have some brilliant songs like She's A River and See The Lights.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my feelings not only about this album but also about the Human League who are one of my favourite bands and an inspiration, not only for their music but their togetherness as a band.

Firstly, the Greatest Hits album. The only track I'm not too keen on is the remix of 'Don't You Want Me' at the end, which I find a bit tacky (couldn't Virgin have put 'Heart Like A Wheel' on instead?). The other tracks on the album are of at least a good standard, with my favourites being 'Love Is All That Matters', 'Together In Electric Dreams', 'Human', 'Mirror Man' and 'Tell Me When' which was the song that introduced me to the band. Overall it is a superb collection of fine electronic music.
