The best greatest hits collection in the history of rock & roll...David Bowie is the man who changed my life...and the lives of a generation.
Before Ziggy I was a football thug, skinhead and `bad boy` - but BOWIE showed me another way of life and introduced me to pop culture.
The great man is a true living legend and apart from my three children and my current soul-mate the `love of my life`.

Often hailed as the band's masterpiece, OMD's Architecture and Morality is a significant improvement over the good but patchy first two albums; whether it's their defining work is debatable, as I'm a big fan of their next album (Dazzle Ships), but it is a great work. The opening "New Stone Age", bizarrely for the band's most adored and popular album, is relatively abrasive and the band`s darkest moment to date, with pained vocals and harsh synthesisers; despite the band's success at harnessing their music into something accessible for the charts, this is still an album hued in shades of foggy greys and misty blues; it's a work that's at once their ... B-sides and rarities collections aren't always necessarily worth having. In some cases though, they can turn out to be stunning; Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series, or Oasis' The Masterplan, which is arguably their finest record. Nick Cave, a very prolific artist, is one who you would expect to have a wealth of brilliant b-sides.
B-sides and Rarities is not as good as you would expect from Nick Cave. It's a possibility that he simply chose not to record some material if he had enough for the next album already. But either way, each disc is unique, and each has a few gems. Sequenced mostly chronologically, while this album could be cut down to one disc fairly easily, this collection wouldn't be a complete experience without wading through all three discs at ... How fabulous is this?! Kim in all her stages. From New Age Pop and the seminal "Kids" through the rockabilly "Love Blonde/Rage" phase and beyond to "Hangin' On" and the immaculate "You Came". The remixes are a much appreciated bonus.
Kim had a Bardot-esque quality that was never fully realised but almost! No pretentions at musical credibility just pure pop = fun. The 80s were a blissful era thanks to the likes of Kim and Nena and...and...
A great collection. Wallow in it and let your heart dance.

i felt i had to write in, as i'm just re-listening to it and i'm realising that there isn't one single track that i would skip- and i can't think of one other album in my 500 or so of which that's true- even blood on the tracks [come on lily, rosemary and the jack of hearts is OK, but only that].
fortunately these reviewers above have done the album justice, but i just wanted to add how brilliant, beautiful and charming this record is. i love the way he sings and he is a truly exceptional and innovative guitarist whose style can be seen in loads of what later came to be indie music from blur, mogwai and bloc party and so on.
this is definitely their best record and it works so well as there is a real flavour of all the different moods and ... Read More:

My three stars may be a bit harsh. It's hard to listen to this LP out of context. In many ways it stands up well against other big albums of the time but it's still got some clunking synths. The lyrics are Weller's most directly political, reflecting the polarised times, and seem clumsy now (or have I been indoctrinated?). More recent converts to Paul Weller will probably bypass this en route from the Jam to the solo stuff, but those who remember Our Favourite Shop from the time may find much to like. The cover is great.

The fact that Depeche Mode can still fill Arena's in the UK, America and across much of mainland Europe is largely down to Violator and it's follow up long player Songs Of Faith And Devotion. Whilst many of their peers from the early 80's rely on nostalgia and novelty - OMD, Duran Duran - Depeche Mode continue to release new commercially and critically successful material.
Violator was the album that saw the band completely make the transformation from synth poppers to something altogether more interesting. They mixed treated guitars with live drums, synths with distorted vocals and lyrics concerning themsleves with death, religion, alienation and emotional pain. That the thundering 'Personal Jesus' has now become a rock staple says it all.
The singles on Violator ... Read More:

I bought this last year despite owning the original albums and I have to say it was money very well spent. If you are hesitating as I did my advice is just buy it! The sound quality is quite superb, Weller's performances on some of the stuff not previously released are almost faultless - "Stand By Me" is a particular highlight - and this really shows The Jam were so much more than the sum of the parts.

The Pretenders, like their more fashionable new wave contemporaries Blondie, had the ability to marry melodic, edgy pop with sassy lyrics in a fashion that appealed to singles-buyers and radio programmers alike. This chronological collection, including UK No. 1 'Brass In Pocket', illustrates that well.
