This is one of the only albums that I can listen to all the way through and not get bored of or dislike any of the songs. It is one of my favourite albums of all time. Tim McIlrath's voice is amazing - going from screaming/ shouting to really melodic in the same breath. I would recommend this album to everyone!

Foxx punk! yes the Matamatic man himself rocking, boy this rocks! Don't judge on the musical releases from 1979/80/81 on this album. Johns path eventually went electonic and he ditched the high energy punk which gradually phased into the final utravox album "Systems of Romance" and a "glimmer" in johns words of things to come.

One of the finest records to ever be released in any genre, 'Repeater' remains - nearly 20 years later - a testament to all the things that were best about alternative music before it's painful commercialization took place in the early nineties.
Built on the interplay between some truly incredible drumming and bass-playing and guitars that burn with both ferocity and focus, the album moves from the almost playful to the downright intense, although most would probably note the holy trinity of 'merchandise', 'Sieve-fisted find' and 'Styrofoam' as the three tracks that not only define the album but the early Fugazi sound.
Like Big Black's 'Atomizer' and Sonic Youth's 'Sister' this is an album that anyone with even the slightest interest in ... Read More:

This is the definitive Ultravox collection. When you listen to this for the first time you're surprised at the number of hits they had and that you remember so many. I will not go into individual tracks but if you only know them for 'Vienna', Ultravox are a truckload more than that. Though they never had a U.K number 1 single, they are the masters of the well written and well-produced synth-pop single. Rather than sounding 'dated', this album will demonstrate to the listener how many of the current fads in music have been done before (think Ladyhawke for example), and much, much better in this case. This is electro-pop at its finest. Ure's clear and precise vocals are the perfect accompaniment to the sparse, tight, atmospheric backing tracks. This is an album you can listen ... Read More:

The Violent Femmes' 1983 self-titled debut is one of the most groundbreaking, important, influential, and enjoyable albums ever released, a musical testament that speaks to all dispossessed souls then, now, and probably forever. Teenagers were particularly drawn to this music in the band's early years, at least those who were fortunate enough to learn of these extraordinary three guys from Milwaukee. I will always associate my angst-filled teen years with groups such as the Violent Femmes, The Cure, and The Smiths because these guys seemed to relate to my own anxieties and frustrations in a way no one around me possibly could. This quirky, uniquely acoustic music has always spoken to those who feel set apart from those around them, who ask questions that no one else asks, ... Read More:

As a Human League die-hard since the age of 12 (and i'll be 40 in 2009)these reviews need balancing up. This release was intended for the die-hard fans ONLY - not the casual fan. Casuals fans won't want "b" sides or anything from an old master tape found in a cupboard from 20 years ago.
I for one was really pleased to see this released - great to finally have "You Remind Me Of Gold" on CD and "Total Panic" which I had on a 3" cd single that got worn out.
Yes...Virgin records COULD have done a better job of the track listing - a lot of stuff left off here (and why wasn't their back catalogue re-released in the UK with these tracks on anyway...like America got. Had to get them on import)
Great artwork though - nice play on the Secrets album - a fantastic Human ... Read More:
'The Buggles', like so many groups that had just one major hit, probably made a mistake in the choosing of their follow-up single which was not so powerful. However, three Top 40 hits to your name in such a short period of time can not be bad!
This includes the extended version of their massive number one classic from 1979: 'Video killed The Radio Star' and just seven other songs which leads to a comparatively short and average pop album.

Usually I'm not a fan of the Coppola soundtracks, they work with the film, but on their own they've been pretty flat, nothing special, good, but not outstanding;
Virgin Suicides, if I'm honest, sounded too repetative, it's my least favourite OST and Air album in one. Lost In Translation had a good soundtrack, it complemented the film well, and you could listen to it, particulartly whilst travelling, I found. For me the LiT ost brings up a lot of happy memories, and it gets me very emotional listening to it, but a lot of it has to do with when it touched my life. Kevin Shields' 'City Girl' being the most profound.
But this OST, for 'Marie Antoinette', it nearly out does the film. It's like a mix tape that someone made for YOU whilst cross-legged on their living room rug infront of the Hi ... Read More:
