'Parallel Lines' is a nice and short album - backing up my firm belief that all the best music material comes in short packages. Every track plays like a single here, and there are four 'official' hits including two Number Ones; 'Picture This', 'Hangin' On The Telephone', 'Heart Of Glass' and 'Sunday Girl'. These included two singles that were released in a year (1978) that was the best-selling year for the 7" single in music history that went on to cause all sorts of manufacturing problems. I already own this classic album in 3 forms, LP CD & remastered CD.
Having purchased this on the strength of the live gig, I'm afraid it's painful listening. The band sound great but the vocals are out of tune & I've found it unlistenable. Why would the band (Mac?) authorise this, there must be better gigs to release?
Stick to the remastered Ocean Rain CD & save your hard earned....

This 2 disc set collects the first album and all of the singles at that time. The bonus disc includes: Ceremony, Temptation 7"mix, In a Lonely Place, Everyting's Gone Green, Procession, Cries and Whispers, Hurt and Mesh, Ceremony (Alt Version), Temptation 12" Mix. Neither of the versions on disc two is the Substance version of Temptation like another review says.

The album was the beginning for NO and definitely different than later albums. But the beginnings are all there, from the bass hooks, to the driving drums. Sumner's vocals are more like Ian Curtis's on this than on future albums.

Rhino did a nice job with this package. Sonically, disc 1 (the album) is excellent. Disc 2's sonics are ok, but could have been better.

I'm a big fan of The Cure and have adored them for longer than I care to admit, but this album is by far my favorite. Although other Cure albums are brilliant, this one keeps the same atmosphere through the whole album which for me, makes it stand out. Definately the soundtrack to my youth as I was in my late teens when this came out and I was at that time the sterotypical teenager who heard this and thought "At last, someone who understands me!."

However many years later, I still listen to this album a lot and still love it. The music and the lyrics are just pure genius and although it may be thought of as rather melancholy, it is, in the wonderful self-obsessed way where you can just wallow in it all. Vienna: Remastered Definitive Edition

I am a fan of Ultravox and have all there albums as they were a great Pop band in there day. But does the world really need another 'Definitive' issue ? in the Dictionary Definitive mean's Final doesn't it ?. I won't be replacing my single disc copy with this issue as good as it might be. I wonder how many more issues we will see in 2009 ? making this one as obsolete as my copy. I'm not a Synic but this just seems a way to make yet more money out of the willing fan.

Speaking about this band the other day with workmate, he said "The Style Council...wasn't that when Weller went a bit gay and French?" (I'm only quoting). They don't have the obvious integrity and outsider status of other great '80s bands like Smiths as they were deliberately making slick pop music. The range of influences on their music made them a conundrum to many Jam fans and still inspires love/hate reaction: socialist nouvelle vague 80s casual cockney synthesiser soul. But 25 years later you can clearly hear the progression from the later Jam to earlier TSC: Speak Like a Child, Solid Bond in your Heart, You're the Best Thing, Money Go Round, Shout to the Top, Walls Come Tumbling Down and Come to Milton Keynes for example are every bit as good as Beat Surrender. ... This is the original item, not some naff copy or re-recording. AT LAST!

You can see them holding their mics in their fingertips on Top of the Pops, can't you? It's memories people! And as such some copy just won't cut it, so what a relief that finally this is the real stuff thats been released.

Some of the tracks are new to me, not being the worlds biggest Dollar fan at the time so this CD is excellent, not only does it let me relive those great memories and great music but it bring me more of it! How often does that happen? There is even some previously unreleased mixes so even if you are a fan, there is still new stuff.

So this is definitely recommended even if just to add those precious memories to your iPod.

The Pretenders are probably the most enduring and ignored bands from the 70s.alot of people dont even realise that they are still going strong.from their 1st album up until Viva El Amor most of their singles are included on this album and all of their biggest hits are here.This is a great album with so many different styles your never quite sure what decade you are in.

Forget the New Romantics, forget Duran and Spandau...this was how it really was..The Cult with no name...Futurism..there we no frilly shirts here.

Rage In Eden was the second album of the Midge Ure era and without doubt the best...the album was produced by Conny Plank and the intensity of the creative process at his studio gives the album the feel of a complete piece of work, no fillers no last minute additions...it is what is says on the box "Definitive" in every sense of the word.

And now after so long away Ultravox will Return to Eden...Vox Your Socks Off!
