Tracks on this album go back 25 years and I loved them then and I still love them now. I am only sorry that Stuart and the boys never got the critical credit and public acclaim they deserved. One of the few bands to keep guitars in the charts in the 80's they never reached the heights of U2 (I remember seeing Stuart Adamson joining Bono and the band at Hammersmith for an encore in 1982/83 I think) but their stirring music appealed to the celt in all of us. Not a duff track on this album representing as it does the heyday of their glorious noise. Don't forget the later albums either, still a cut above anything else out there at the time and still hold good today.

This album, could certainly be called THE album that defined the early to mid '80s, as it's up front and in your face with 'Two Tribes' and 'Relax', and emotional with 'The Power of Love'. The covers of 'Born To Run', and 'San Jose' certainly are very credible. Although this album may not be everyone's cup of tea, if you collect iconic albums, this really has to be in your collection!

..this was the trio at their best, my fave album by them..contains excellent tracks (thick as thieves, smithers jones and the most underrated jam track ever wasteland) go and buy it at this price it`s a steal!! and then buy all their other albums.

Dare

Dare is one of the most memorable albums of the synth-pop genre of the late 70s and early 80s, in the company of masterpieces like Architecture & Morality by OMD, Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics and Upstairs at Eric's by Yaz(oo). True, Gary Numan had conquered the charts by synthesizer in 1979 but his was a darker vision and more properly called synth-rock, just like the Human League's first two albums of dark eerie music: Reproduction and Travelogue.

This 3rd album, however, is pure brilliant pop created by synths and syndrums. The songs are catchy, tuneful and emotionally profound, which is why this album has remained such a timeless treasure. If you've had just a passing interest in music over the last 30 years or so, and bought the occasional magazine, chances are you have come across the Fall; chances are, equally, you could not sing or even name a single record here. No matter, it would still be worthwhile laying down the required green and taking a chance on this compilation. If you don't like what you hear then it's no great loss, but it's more than likely that you'll enjoy a good number of these tracks. If you like most of this album then you are just about to fall in love with this band and if you are going to get gooey over a group there's few better candidates.

Having been a Police fan from my teenage years and finally seeing them again reformed at Twickenham 2007, this remastered greatest hits/tour album really gets the pulse racing. If you didn't have the luxury of seeing them in concert the album contains all the songs performed over the 2 nights apart from "When The World is Running Down....".still can't understand why this particular song was omitted from the album but, the others are all absolute classics. If you were lucky enough to attend one night of the tour listen and remember.........

Reasons to Be Cheerful: the Best of Ian Dury

I remember Dury mainly from the late 70s/80s era as enjoyed his moment of chart stardom which coinciding with the rise of punk: What a Waste, Hit me with your Rhythm Stick... I kind of lost touch with him since then, and discovering this excellent collection was a treat. It's bulging with delights, all for the price of a new pair of panties. Dury is a brilliant wordsmith and the Blockheads provide a unique backing which is a hybrid of pub rock, funk and reggae. Unlike most punk bands, the Blockheads are expert musicians and Dury is as adept a writer as the likes of Noel Coward - though somewhat more potty-mouthed.

what a masterpiece this song is and the clash were my favorite of the punk rock bands. i'm not a big punk rock kid, but the clash was my favorite. on this album it has the greatest punk song ever created in punk rock history should i stay or should i go and rock the casbah is a great tropical bar song.
