It is best, I feel, not to let Rice's ideologies get in the way of his music. Admittedly, he makes it difficult with most lyrics, song titles and motivations behind the music revolving around his extreme world view, ideas etc. On one hand, I see it has schlock -tactics to provoke and incite, which is fine as an artistic medium seeing as most other music avoid the subjects that Rice integrates seamlessly into the very fabric of his art. Thus, NON/Rice is very individual as the talk of Blood, flame, bones, death, beast, death, sex, Nietzsche et al creates a kind of mythical, otherworldly atmosphere for the music. Dolphin Sonar

Merzbow returns with a thunderous and blistering tribute to dolphins. Merzbow's a hardcore animal rights advocate who abhors the killing of dolphins and other creatures. At times the music is full of white noise and violence as a means to evince Merzbow's rage regarding dolphins being massacred. There are intervals of semi-ambient grandeur that gauge the marine ecosytems wherein dolphins dwell. In general "Dolphin Sonar" is a very riveting CD that will be enjoyed by noise music fans and open-minded marine mammal lovers.

and it sounds pretty awesome - pretty much what you'd expect from live boredoms - super ae / vision creation newsun era - except with the added bonus of a choir!! I cant wait for this to arrive as the description of the packaging on the thrill jockey website sounds particularly delectable...

This is a very special reissue for fans of the AC. The original pressing was a run of 300 LPs, all with covers individually hand painted by the band. Having been out of print since the day it was released, fans have had to pay out the ass for Hollinndagain on eBay for the last four years. This is now no longer the case, which will make those fans quite happy... and they'll prolly be the only ones. The spirit behind those tracks was that most of the people who attended these early shows were friends of the band who often saw them play. So, instead of having their pals shell out for the same old tunes time and time again, the AC decided to constantly form new jams. Yow! For what is barely 25 minutes, this here album manages to come into your world and detonate it with a billion billion sticks of TNT, and always with a big damn smile; then it finishes, and you want more, more, MORE! Still, theres only so much the world can take. 'Teeny Shiny' has to be, along with Godspeed You Black Emperor's '..Antennas to Heaven', the most incredible, astonishing combination of sounds released in 2000, somehow surpassing the genius of 'Charlie' with an equally frenetic but surprisingly varied set of tracks, going from stop-start rhythmic shenanigans on 'Bright Splat' to the insanely catchy almost-pop 'Moon Flavor' via jaw-dropping blasts of sonic doom, particularly 'First Contact to Planet Q'. it's an extremely good entry point into their work and gives you alot of songs that are pretty hard to get hold of.

Get this while you can! They don't usually make them like this anymore, triple vinyl, gorgeous colour booklet with an essay and coloured (or clear) vinyl.
And as for the music...
Well all the collaborators have outdone themselves on this mighty album. For your money, you get the full version of the LP (as only available on a very rare 2CD set) including Her Lips Were Wet With Venom - a radical reworking of Soundgarden's obscure Satan Oscillate My Metallic Sonatas (or S.O.M.M.S). The track features the combined talents of Sunn O))), Boris and Dylan Carlson (of the band Earth) and is an uber-heavy improvisatory epic which allows each musician to in turn display their reportoire. The result is awesome.
