Make no mistake, this CD is essential. However most people would think that 'essential', would include their greatest hits. This CD may not include his greatest hits, however to quote the booklet enclosed: "The music on this CD does not comprise his hits, but a number of standards which show just how accomplished an interpreter of songs he was."

In many instances I prefer Bobby's take on these songs. He truly makes them his own. I have no complaint in regard to the music, however just as a fun little note, not so much a complaint as it has not impacted my enjoyment of the music one litte bit - the short biography in the booklet has some word trouble, one of the few mistakes reads, "... I have this CD and I love it. I have been trying to find another one to buy for a friend and finally found it at your sight. I am so excited that I finally found someone smart enough to carry this outstanding album. The 40 songs are wonderful and relaxing to listen to. I like the fact that there are various artists singing these songs. I have heard several other CD's with a single artist singing all of these songs and they are not as good as this one. Not all singers have the same style of singing the same song. I like the enthusiasm and style of each individual artist and the song/s they have chosen to sing on this magnificent album. This is a must buy album for the serious Cole Porter enthusiast.

Possibly the best Dean Martin LP that there is. Superbly recorded when his voice was in it's best form. They added four extra tracks at the end of the original lineup as better value on CD. These tracks are from previous singles and are not as wonderful as the original tracks, however if you like the sound of Dean Martin in italian mood and you havn't got this album...you're missing something!

The recordings on this 2CD set will not disappoint. There are some items that are amongst the finest ever recorded, and Peter Dawson is one of the finest singers ever to record.

The Song of the Flea, and The Erlking show the skill with which Dawson approaches humour and drama. Superb diction, wonderful musicality.

The operatic arias, sung in English, prove that Italian Opera can sound very good in English with a performer of the caliber of Peter Dawson. It's also nice to have the complete "Songs of the Sea" by Stanford.

The ballads on disc 1 will be very familiar to Dawson fans, and the transfers don't disappoint. "Somewhere a Voice is Calling", and "I'll Walk Beside You" are perfect in their ... Read More:
