I only realised that Charles Trenet was the singer of such classics as La Mer when he died. I am not of his era, but I bought the CD and it is superb. I can put it on in the car, in the middle of stalled traffic, and be transported to the French countryside. And my 3 year old daughter also fell in love with it.

This is not the album most people first think of when it comes to Sinatra's Capitol years, but nonetheless it is one of his very best recordings and features some of his most sensitive singing. The arrangements are once again by Nelson Riddle but the concept is slightly unusual in that it makes a feature of the Hollywood String Quartet, which lends a beautifully elegaic feeling to the arrangements and compliments Sinatra's unique, cello-like vocal timbre. The song selection can't be faulted, and includes some unusual picks like "I've Had My Moments" and "Love Locked Out", both 1930s rarities that should be better known.
