This collection of tunes from the original British ballroom dancing superstar is distinguished by a sparkling production which allows all the instruments of the orchestra to be heard in clear stereo sound. Victor Silvester's trademark solo violin is of course present, but piano, guitar, clarinet and saxophone all take the lead at different moments. It's a great example of the natural sound of a ballroom orchestra playing real instruments in the era before the electronic synthesiser took over. You definitely don't need to be a Victor Silvester fan to enjoy listening or dancing to this - anyone who likes the classic ballroom sound will enjoy these melodies.

On this CD you have 11 songs that are not always immediately linked to Frank Sinatra, other stars being more connected to the song. From the very 1st track Mr Sinatra is in good form. His voice and delivery are a joy to listen to. Moon River, a classic song, looses none of its appeal and Franks delivery certainly enhances the best track on the CD. The other tracks are well known and Franks singing of them grows on you the more you listen to them. A special mention for his rendition of The Way You Look Tonight which is a must to hear. In all a CD for all Sinatra fans, new and old,

Well, nearly 2 years after submitting my review for the first box set from JSP records, I thought I would do likewise for Volume II.
There are again 5 CD's, this time totalling 109 tracks. The first 4 CD's take us in chronological order from "Swinging along, singing a song" (first time on CD) to "Come hither with your zither".
The fifth CD carries on from there, including all the songs from "Zip Goes A Million", even going so far as to include a couple of tracks which George was not involved with ("It takes no time to fall in love" and "Nothing breaks but the heart").
We then have 16 alternative takes of songs included either in the first box set or elsewhere within this one (including 3 I'd never heard before, ... Read More:

This CD is by far the best live Rat Pack recording currently in circulation. It represents the second night's show of a three night engagement at Las Vegas' Sands Hotel, and having already bought the first night's show on another CD, I must say that this is a much cleaner and more immediate-sounding example.
Dean Martin kicks off the show with his sensational Vegas Medley and continues with several standards in his usual drunky and throw-away manner. Frank's set is a straight line-up of marvellously performed songs, while Sammy Davis only has a couple of songs before the finale, one of which is 'All The Way' with Sammy impersonating various other singers.
Undoubtedly, a highlight is the "snack bar" section, where Dino wheels out ... Read More:

i bought this album about ten years ago and now want to get it on cd so i can ensure i have a copy for the next ten years. the album is a reworking of classic film show and standards imbued with the richness and melody so recognisable from feinstein. what i like most are the explanatory notes on the cover which give an insight into the thinking behind the musical choices for the album and the obvious labour of love undertaken by feinstein in finding these songs including some which have additional lyrics somehow lost to the originals. i cannot overemphasise the joy this album has brought me over the years and the constant pleasure i have listening again and again to the beautiful music. from the romance of the first song isn't it romantic with its chauvinistic ... This album is rare. John Denver was approached to make this album, at a time when he was singing better than at any time in his career, so far. All the tracks are re-recordings and have been treated differently to when they were originally recorded. The result is amazing. This is the real best of John Denver.
There have been more many recent John Denver collections, but surprisingly they all contain the original inferrior recordings. There is an American Import version of this called John Denver's Greatest Hits, which has the same picture on the front, some of which contain three bonus tracks.
If you can get this at a reasonable price, this is a must.

This album is one of the best if not the best live albums I own. The show has superb reviews already and that goes without saying. I give it five stars not only for the performance but also the recording. If you turn it up loud and shut your eyes you can imagine the "Sands" with the slight crowd noise and odd "chinking" of the glasses in the audience and really feel and almost see that you are right in the middle of the auditorium with this fantastic band in front of you along with the worlds greatest singer - it's that good!
