This great album recorded in 1993 is one of the very best Dionne recorded for Arista. It opens with the "reunion" of Bacharach, David and Warwick on Sunny Weather Lover....a gentle pop song in the Bacharach and David tradition. Also included is Dionne's ballad duet with cousin Whitney Houston on "Love Will Find A Way". Dionne's albums always features great love ballads and on this cd "Age Of Miracles" and "The Woman That I Am" are standout tracks. Another great track is Dionne's version of Sting's "Fragile" which is perfectly suited to Dionne's voice. It's a pity that this album was not promoted by the record company at the time of release. It should have been a big hit!.

This is a great CD, if you love Marlene as much as I do then this is one for your collection. I love the versions of Boys In The Backroom, Lola and Making Woopee.

John recorded many fine albums so while these two are not my favorites they are extremely good, filled as they are with many great songs - typical of John's albums.
Poems prayers and promises, John's fourth album, was his first really big seller, making the top twenty in the American album charts on the strength of one hit single, the evocative and catchy Take me home country roads, which made number two in the American pop charts. It didn't chart in Britain until Olivia Newton-John covered the song - she had a UK top twenty hit with it in 1973. Another song from the album, Sunshine on my shoulders, became an American number one hit three years after the album's original release. Other outstanding songs here include My sweet lady, ... In this era of backwards looking and the vinyl revival I guess it is hoping for too much that the culture will reach back to the inter war years, maybe it will take a blockbuster movie to resurrect that.
Naxos, being as cutting edge as ever have issued this collection of Gertie Lawrence (at a time when we need her more than ever) including some of the divinely decadent playing with Noel Coward. Anyone over the age of 40 will probably discover that they can sing along with much that is found here. Turn your sound system into a time travelling radio by playing this and you will smile. I promise.

I decided to review a Dionne Warwick compilation. I looked for one that was a double, and covered the Bacharach years of the 60s, the Warner years of the 70s and the Arista years of the 80s and beyond. I could not find such a compilation! In spite of all the albums available, there could be a gap in the market! A double is more than justified to get beyond the well known songs of the whole career of this recording legend.
This one covers the 60s and 70s, but the Arista stuff ('Heartbreaker', 'That's What Friends Are For' etc) is missing. Nevertheless, in conjunction with a disc of that music, this compilation will give you the hits, and a bit of depth from this icon.
