This is the soundtrack of one of the best and most memorable films I have seen this year. The CD is a wondeful reminder of the beauty of Piafs singing, Cant wait for the DVD to come out if you can see ther Film It contains all the songs from the film except the French National Anthem sung while a child which I owuld have liked on there, there are many other titles that are not by Paif but nset the scene of her life.

I love Christmas music, often pulling it out to listen to mid-year. And you'll never catch me listening to anything but Christmas music from Thanksgiving to Christmas. That's why I'm a little ashamed to admit to only just now getting this classic collection.

What I've been missing all these years is a truly wonderful CD. Bing has a rich, strong voice that is pleasing to listen to. The arrangements feel dated, but that's part of the charm. It feels like an old friend from the very first listen.

My only real complaint (and a minor one at that) is the pacing of the album. The first six tracks are all slower numbers. They do include a great version of "Silent Night," and Bing's classic recording of "White Christmas," ... Read More:

Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely

I have racked my brains for some time as to what the finest Sinatra album of them all is. Having listened to all but a few of them I can safely say the job gets more difficult the more you listen to. In my humble opinion I can break down his finest five into this list; "Sinatra and Strings", "September of my Years", "Sinatra and Swingin' Brass", "Moonlight Sinatra" and "Sinatra Sings For Only The Lonely". This is a debateable topic, and if something said to me "No you're wrong. Songs for Swingin' Lovers is the best", I would not argue with them, as each album holds a special place in everyone's heart for personal reasons. However there is no doubt to the musical prowess of this album.

This compilation showcases Dean Martin's musical stock-in-trade: a complete lack of singing talent coupled with a unique ability to utilise vocals to convey smugness - unbearable smugness. Listening to the pedestrian quality of the tracks here, it's hard not to picture Dean recording them while actually engaged in some other activity - counting his money, having a manicure, playing video games. At times, one has the distinct impression that he is in the middle of eating a sandwich, or perhaps a pizza, and is in point of fact singing out of the side of his mouth. At other times, one can almost hear him thinking "Are they really gonna pay me for this junk?" But then the air of self-satisfaction returns, and one can visualise the jaded star wrapping up ... As Time Goes By: the Best of Jimmy Durante

As a kid growing up, I found Jimmy Durante to have a style that was somewhat comic--and my reaction was exactly what he cultivated as part of his public persona. For those of us who were young during the waning years of his career, Jimmy was a clown.

Even now, no one ever could call his voice beautiful, yet I can think of no more fitting a talent to sing the songs on this CD. His raspy style perfectly fits the original moods of classics such as "As Time Goes By," "I'll Be Seeing You," and "Try A Little Tenderness." Every melody on this CD is a gem, and the way Jimmy styles them simultaneously makes the listener want to weep and to dance. Can there be a higher compliment for a crooner?
