Nothing other than the cover's misleading description of the contents could prevent this release being given 5 stars.
Owning the original 'Music to Make You Misty', from 1957, allows me to see that two tracks, 'Mickey', and, 'It Happened in Monteray', are omitted from this re-release, though you do get four extra recordings, from an un-acknowleged source, also by Gleason; although the notes state that this is a re-release of a re-release, and not of the original, and refer to the running order also being different, after waiting forty-one years for a c.d. release, you would have thought sufficient time properly to prepare would have been taken advantage of.
Nonetheless, the music is great, either for memory's reflection, or to-day's ... Read More:

Peter Dawson the first pop superstar who kicked off his career with a series of hit cylinders.
Like Bob Dylan he went through an Acoustic then Electric period-that was a joke it was how the manufacture of records was described at the time.
The Drawing Room Ballad was his forte and its where he really kicked ass.
His version of Amy Woodforde Finden's Pale Hands I Loved is SEMINAL!
Both Dawson and his Irish contemporary who also began in Cylinders (John McCormack) covered like there was no tomorrow.Whatever was around they covered it and what's more CLEANED UP!
Dawson was active until the end of the 50s and died in 1961 but among his last covers were songs by Frankie Laine-if the man had lived longer he'd have done some ... Read More:

What a divine album, not a single track I could possibly skip, and no-one but Deano could have made these songs sound so enchanting. Highly recommended for any fan of Dean Martin, and especially for those who would want to hear the very essence of Italy in music.

My mountains of escape were the hills of Wales but my soundtrack became John's fabulous "Rocky Mountain High". More or less ignored in the UK, I loved the album cover and that first song- and played it over and over! This was my starting point with John's music and I confess to not liking everything he did. When he got over sentimental (something the music press ate him alive for at the time), then it was too twee to stomach- but listen up to his fabulous version of "Mother Nature's Son" here, The wonderful orchestra of accoustic guitars just bursts with the tumbling streams it celebrates! John is ... Read More:

This my favourite collection of Dean Martin songs. The Man with the Mandolino is fabulous & very atmospheric. The other songs too are just so engaging & great to croon along to. A lovely album.
