This 2-CD collection of film and Broadway songs was recorded at Feinstein's at the Regency in New York City with Michael and a small group of jazz musicians giving a virtuoso performance of standards such as "As Time Goes By", "The Way You Look Tonight", "My Funny Valentine" and "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye". A perfect album to listen to late in the evening, with the lights down low and a loved one nearby.................!

Bobby Darin seemed to touch everything except Beatles Music-he would have got round to it if he'd lived long enough.
His version of If I were a Carpenter is definitive.
For him it began with one lost night when both he and Connie Francis were total unknowns and he covered Lonnie Donegan's Rock Island Line.
2 years later he'd begun a chart career with some groovy rock'n'roll before reinventing himself a year later as a Sinatra clone.
He was accused of copying Sinatra but so what-everybody copies.Even Sinatra who in 1960 copied Bobby Darin!

I first saw "The Singing Detective" back in the 80's and even as a teenage punk I fell in love with the music, this was my first taste of "JAZZ".Over the years I dabbled in "Jazz" becoming a long time fan but only when I saw "The Singing Detective" again on DvD was I impulsed to by this boxset.All the songs from the Tv series are here plus many more in a same style from the 40's and 50's OVER 3 hours of pure pleasure.Perfect for those evenings in.
One of the best buys this year from Amazon so far and at a very good price, a must have for all "The Singing Detective" fans.

Heartbreaker

It's no secret that Dionne peaked in the late sixties with Hal and Burt, and that much of the material on "Heartbreaker" is painfully avarage. The title track, produced and conceived by Barry Gibb, is a catchy little 80's rock ballad, and "Yours" is one of her best recordings. Well, the rest of the material...? Filler and painfully ordinary. There is nothing exceptional about any of the songs, and I just don't understand why Dionne couldn't see that at the time. It is no wonder why she's refrained from performing many of these songs in her concerts, it would simply be too embarrassing to put these tracks next to any of her 60's material. "Heartbreaker" is a confused and misguided album, shame on you Barry for allowing this.

This album is a Christmas masterclass from one of the most mellifluous singers of all time. From first to last this will leave you feeling warm inside and bring back childhood memories of days before your older brother told you FC was really your mum and dad!! I especially enjoyed the relaxing classic "Silent Night" and the more upbeat "Buon Natale" and if "The Little Boy that Santa Claus Forgot" doesn't bring a lump to your throat and a tear to your eye, you are a stonger person than I am. Well worth a listen this Christmas.

There's got to be something wrong with anyone who doesn't rate Vera Lynn who is this country's most famous girl singer and who can be said to have been in the forefront of the first British Invasion which also included Dick James ,Mantovani and Frank Chacksfield
Having just passed her 90th birthday it seems absurd that there has yet to be a DVD.
The closest so far is Songs of World War 2 which she introduces and which shows footage of her on stage.In fact seen here she looks quite stunning
Possibly every song she ever recorded is now on CD the most recent the EMI Singles Collection which includes the 2 Beatles songs
